Hello From a New Member
Hello,
I just joined iRV2 and would just like to introduce myself. I am a retired school teacher and I am currently babysitting my 2-year-old grandson for my daughter. I am in the beginning process of becoming an RVer, I'm not sure that is a word, and I am doing a lot of research on types of RVs and trying to decide which type would be the best for me. My intention is to do a lot of traveling in it and live in it most of the time if not full time. This has been a dream of mine for many, many years and I am very excited but also a bit nervous about the whole experience. I welcome any input and advice any of you can give me on the purchase of an RV as well as traveling experiences. I have traveled in a Class A Motorhome some and I have driven one; however, not extensively. I wish all of you the best and hope to hear from you soon. Thank you.

The type you buy will depend a lot on your budget. Your needs, how many will be traveling with you and whether you will be staying in Private RV parks, state parks, or boondocking. You will need to decide a number of those things before you narrow down
your RV. Travel Trailer, 5th Wheel, Class A, B, or C. New or used? It is good you are doing your research and learning. This site is a good place to ask questions.
As a teacher you know the only dumb question is the one you don't ask. Good luck.

Welcome to the forum.
You have joined a good group of folks here with good info to share. Read the numerous threads here and ask questions as they come up. Getting the "right" rig can be a long and sometimes confusing process. Good luck
Enjoy the adventure.

from Washington State
I started RV'ing in 1957 when my parents rented a TT, then they ordered a 1958 KenCraft. I got my first TT in 1968 and have had one ever since. I went from a TT to a Type B MH in 1988 then a Type C in 1997, then to a Type A in 1998. Got my first DP in 2000 and went larger fom there.

Information on Types of RVs
Thank you to all of you who replied to my welcome post. I am currently in the search for an RV and I am taking into consideration my situation as an RVer. I will be traveling at length and hope to get to every state if possible. I will be traveling alone most of the time if not all of the time. I want to find an RV that I will not experience a lot of problems with since I am not mechanically inclined. My desire is to buy a good used RV and be able to pay for it so I won't have a payment. I have a small house that I am selling and will use the proceeds from that to purchase the RV. I am leaning toward a 5th Wheel because that will provide me with a vehicle when I park so that I can go where I want. I don't feel I would be comfortable towing a car with a Class A. Since I will be living in it for long periods of time, I want something that is roomy enough to not feel cramped and have storage space. I am leaning toward a 5th Wheel, but then I will have to purchase a truck large enough to pull it. I hope this post isn't too long, but I would really love to hear from others with experience in purchasing and traveling in an RV. Also, I probably should add that I am a woman which I'm sure is another factor to consider. Thank you so much for your replies and information.

kbenn,
Check out RV.org. They rate RVs and have the most complete information on the selection and buying process. Good RV hunting.
