Hello from Atascadero California

Bruce and Jeannie here. We've been RVing for the past several years, currently in our 38' Winnebago Ultimate Advantage. We started out in a Sportsmen travel trailer, but that only lasted about a year. From there we went to a Fleetwood Flair for a couple of years and now the 350 diesel. Most of our travels are within California, Bay Area and some Southern California, but twice a year we travel to Arizona and New Mexico, Oregon and Washington too once. All these trips are pretty much business related as we travel to many art shows each year. Bruce is a wood sculptor of birds and sea life and we sell his art work at various street venues. We take our two Yorkies along, Puddin and Muffin, who have become good little travelers, and that is one of the many reasons we became RVers - we just couldn't leave them behind.

As with many, we've experienced our share of mechanical problems, some funny, some not so funny, but as Gilda Radnor used to say "it's always something". At the moment we are in the throes of restringing our day/night shades. We've got the kit and lots of instructions, along with the broken shades staring us in the face, but we still haven't buckled down to the actual restringing process. Like everything else, this too shall pass, but there will always be another project to rear its ugly head. Ah the joys of RV ownership.

We're looking forward to being a part of IRV2.com. Thanks!

I suggest doing a search on this site, someone posted very detailed help on restringing the shades that looked to be useful.

Thanks everyone for your "welcomes". We checked out the site for help with our day/night shades and you're right - there are many options we will tap into. For those of you who know the California Central Coast, yes, Pismo and Morro Bay are two favorites of many who visit here. Bruce had a shop in Morro Bay for 20 years or so and I worked for the City of Pismo Beach for about 15 years. Atascadero is about 20 minutes from the ocean and Morro Bay, and half an hour to Pismo. It is definitely not a tourist destination, but we call it home and when we are on the road for weeks at a time, I can't wait to get back to our humble slice of heaven on earth.

Welcome! Not to high-jack your thread, but it just so happens we are trying to find some spots to stay near Pismo, SLO etc. this winter and since you all seem to be practically locals, do you have a recommendation? We're 40-feet and don't need alot of fancy stuff. Close to beach is nice (if it's dog-friendly), boondocking is also fine. Hope you don't mind me asking!

Holiday Recreational Vehicle Park 100 S. Dolliver, Pismo Beach 805.773.1121 I've heard is a popular campground. Another one not far is in Morro Bay - people just ooh and aah over Morro Bay, more so than Pismo. The Morro Bay State Park is another place you might want to consider, 805.772.2560. We've never camped in either place since we live so close to them - might as well stay home! Both places can be overcast and quite cool in the summer because they are right on the ocean. Whether or not they take dogs, I'm not sure, but I bet they do if they're not Rottie's or Pit Bulls. Reservations might be a little hard to get for summertime camping, but good luck!!!

Cheers so much for the tips! It'll be for winter so hopefully less full. Thanks again!
