We are first timers and if everything goes according to plan we are going to Florida this weekend to take delivery of our new coach. (2004 Newmar Kountry Star 3905) A little scary buying something as big as this is without having a clue as to how to drive it. We will have several days with it before returning home. (Not bringing it back with us right now) Thinking about going to RV driving school, but several of my friends who are long time MH owners, say it’s not necessary. One will go with me and assist me on my first trip later this fall. Any advice from all the expertise here is welcome.

redmule: we purchased a KSDP 3904 last year. I hope you are rewarded with both the good luck and enjoyment we've experienced.
Newmar parts, sevice and tech support have been as helpful as IRV2.
Hope you send some photos soon.

We are also newbies to irv2 and have found a wealth of information here. Don't be afraid of driving your new rig. We had a wonderful salesman that held our hand the whole way! My wife does all the driving of our 40 ft DSDP and does great. By the way I'm the one who knocked our driver mirror off on our first rv outing

, sure wished I had heard about the mirrors and the rear before that. Enjoy every minute and mile and good luck with your new MH.

We made the trip to FL and as of tomorrow we will officially be the owners of this rig.

Looks like a real beauty!!! Hope you truly enjoy it.
In driving, just think LONG, use your mirrors and plan way ahead for everything-gas, traveling streets, parking, ect. You'll be A-OK.
Did you buy this in Seffner, Fla?

That is one striking coach, RedMule! Congratulations on your acquisition.

As to your doubts about driving her... By the mere fact that you are smart enough to recognize the potential need for some guidance in the matter of driving that large vehicle... you are a quantum leap ahead of most first-timers. A formal RV driving course may not be necessary if you have a seasoned driver who can show you the ropes.

One consistent statistic... the accident rate goes up X-100% when backing such a large vehicle. It is a simple matter of blind spots. That is why you often see "fleet" vehicles parking where they can "pull through" ...company policy prohibits them from putting the vehicle in a position wherin it must be backed out.

That fact alone will help you avoid damaging that beautiful girl. See... you are already a better driver!

Your attitude, some training from a veteran RVer, reading everything you can about the subject... and ultimately, "Windshield Time" in your coach will soon have you "threading a needle" with that behemoth. No worries!
