Hello New Friends
I am a Newbie and have been looking around the different discussions while my membership was being approved. The last motorhome I owned was an 1976 Travco bought new and sold in 1979. Probably not many of you are even familiar with it. It was a very modern look for that era as it was a fiberglass cabover and a very sleek design (blue and white in color). It was built on a Dodge chassis with a 440 c.i. engine. At best I got around 13 mpg and normally from 10-11 mpg. I sold it for two reasons: 1. I wasn't using it very much because I am a Pharmacist and worked every other weekend. The weekends I didn't work began to get hectic with three children who played whatever sport was in season. 2. Gas prices spiked to over $2 per gallon and I was sure I couldn't afford to pay that price for gasoline getting 10mpg?????
Well things have changed, now I am retired (wonderful hours, pay not so good) and realize there are so many wonderful, beautiful sights in our great country that I want to visit.
Because of the upscale furnishings, reliability and mpg (cost) of operation I am currently leaning towards a Sprinter chassis probably a Roadtrek. BUT that's why I joined all you intelligent owners for your opinions!
So fire away, good or bad, I will be like a sponge soaking it up. And last but certainly no least, thank you for allowing me to be part of the group.

Hello back at you.
You make no mention of how you are going to use your new MH. Are you weekending, going several months, snow birding or full timing?
No matter what you do I would check out the floor plan. If you are not comfortable for a few hours sitting in a dealership (ditch the salesman) you will not be comfortable when you spend days in it camping. There will always be confinement when you get caught by inclement weather.

Welcome aboard & good luck on your search. Don't jump at the first thing you see. Do a lot of research & put a lot of thought into it.

Gordon Dewald, Sorry I did forget to mention that
and certainly it is pertinent. We will not be full timing or snow birding but are thinking more about something from a few days in the Smoky Mountains, maybe a week at the beach, two to three weeks through the Southwest and two to three weeks to the Northwest and maybe two weeks to the Northeast. Certainly not all close together but spaced out over the next few years. Oh and a few weekend trips to Knoxville to watch our beloved Vols as they are about to regain some respectability.
Most if not all of these trips will be just my wife and me. That is one reason we are thinking about the Sprinter chassis because of the ease of the expense of traveling, if we feel the need to spend a night or two at hotels it would better fit our travel budget.
We are still very much in the exploratory stage of style and size at this time although being able to park in a regular parking space appeals to me allowing us to spend some nights outside of campgrounds and some nights in campgrounds.

Sounds like you have things well in hand. While RV'ing is not for everybody most find the lifestyle addictive and what starts out as casual outings can become extended. You will not go wrong with a Sprinter chassis and if you decide to move up I believe the resale is as good on them as any.

Glad to have you here with us.
The Sprinter is a great chassis.
An issue to consider is; if I go on vacation and it rains several days, will I be comfortable in what I bought, or will I be cramped?
Good luck with your decision.
Happy Trails!!!!
