Hello all -
My wife and I are the proud owners of a 1989 Eurocoach by Champion Home Builders. We have owned others (1989 Pace Arrow, 1978 Apollo, and a 1968 GMC 4908 Bus conversion.

This is by far the best riding coach we have had (aside from the bus).

We just did a shakedown trip to test all things out and have a few questions that the experts here should be able to help with!

1. I have a vibration that I think is in the drivetrain that starts at 35mph and ends at 45mph. A different vibration starts around 60mph and doesn't let up. It actually feels like its limiting any further progress. It has the Ford 460 with 3 spd tranny.
2. Does anyone know where I could find a set of manuals for this coach? There are a couple of dash switches that don't seem to work anything.
3. Should the house charger unit charge the chassis battery?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Hi scritser and welcome to iRV2. We too are Floridians, up near Ocala.

The vibration you feel could come from a couple of sources. One is an out-of-balance drive shaft and another likely one is tire balance and/or alignment. You could also have a tire that has incipient tread separation. That typically shows up as a vibration that increases with speed.

The house charger may or may not charge the chassis battery - some designs do and others do not. It takes some additional electrical components to isolate the two systems and properly control the charging, and some manufacturers don't provide them. If yours is not designed that way, you can add a system to do so. Xantrex makes one called the Echo Charger
Xantrex Technology Inc. - Recreational Vehicles - echo~charge - Product Information

Another such product is Trik-L-Charge
Ultra TRIK-L-START Starting Battery Charger/Maintainer

Hi , Usually a driveline vibration is caused by a " worn u-joint" (making the driveline out of balance) Make sure to check the oil level on the rear end as well. Go ahead and check the rear brakes,Make sure its not the "e-brake" , try to eliminate any other problems. The drive line is easy to remove, take it to a driveline shop, they can easily replace any u-joints. Check the "carrier" bearing(this supports the driveline ) This may cause some "drag". You will save a lot of cash by taking out the drive line yourself. Shop around for a good price on the shop.
