Kay and Gene Lueg here.I have been motorcycle tent camping for years and after a rally in Nov this year I decided camping should be a family affair. I decided upon a used hybrid but after looking at all the trailers on eBay we fell in love with our Grand Surveyor 280 and bit the bullet. I don't think we will ever regret it. I failed to mention our family is Kay, Carmen, our adopted 5 yr. old and myself. We also have 3 older, away from home kids and one new grandson. As we just bought our trailer earlier this month our only camping has been the two nights on our return trip from Montgomery, AL to north LA. As total novices it did turn into somewhat of a memorable occasion. We came extremely close to running out of gas as I did not realize my mpg would be cut in HALF. There was no propane in the tanks, it was a cold night, dark setting up and I did not even have a flashlight. The kind gatekeeper gave us a pull through site and loaned us a flashlight, electric heater and more blankets. The next night we parked in a spot where the electricity didn't work and it took us two hours to figure it out. I think I'll take a voltmeter on the next trip, ha, ha, and lots of other stuff too.

Welcome to the wonderful world of RVing, it's not just a camping trip, it's an adventure !!

Don't feel bad about your first trip, we have all been there, yours was pretty mild compaired to some I have seen and heard about, at least you didn't hit anything, get stuck or run off the road.

It is handy to carry a voltage tester, I always have one of the small multi meters with me (Radio Shack 19.95), and of course a couple of flash lights with extra batteries. I also carry some sleeping bags just in case...

Anything you need just ask, there is plenty of experience here on this board that is always willing to help.
