Hi all from UK!!

Hey there,

My wife and I are planning a year of RVing, starting in vancouver by buying a C class, going across canada to the east coast, into the US, heading to various locations, eventually ending up back in halifax NS to ship our RV back to England to maybe tour Europe, although I imagine we will have run out of money by then!

We have joined as we have done quite a lot of research already and will be looking for advice etc to supliment what we have already learned

So hi! From Chris

Welcome aboard!

What time of the year will you be starting your trip?

Also where are you going to buy your class C? Vancouver or down in Seattle?

Greetings. Met several folks thst have done exacrly what your proposing. Remember buying a RV in Canada can be really expensive compared to places like Florida or South Dakota. You might consider buying in the states for that reason.

Thanks guys,

The time of year we are looking to travel is from September through February in canada, we are aware this is probably the worst time to travel Canada, as most campsites will be closed, there appear to be a handful of all year campsites all across Canada plus we have a friend in Toronto we will be seeing for new year, and due to the time of year we want to see the states it makes more sense to start then,

We were going to buy our rv in vancouver, we are are aware this is more expensive than the states, if we enter the US at any point before we intend to, it will start our visa clock ticking and we only have 6 months (potentially) before we would have to leave, it also ties in when we have to be back in the UK

At least in vancouver you can buy register and insure all in one, however it does seem you pay a premium for the privilege!

Thanks

Hey Chris,

Cornish Pasty gal here and Cockney hubby! Live just outside of Calgary on an acreage for almost a quarter century and prior to that Oakville Ontario initially for a short while upon emigrating.

Just a couple observations you might want to consider if your travels aren't cast in stone. Last September we were shovelling pretty deep snow off our driveways, three or four times during that month and even feeding round bales of hay!! Oct, Nov, Dec, Jan were pretty mild compared to most years. Feb and all through March they say, we are experiencing close to -40 many days with the windchill!!! Just saying as a FYI. Truckers in Toronto 3 weeks ago had to abandon their trucks as their diesel froze (gelled in reality but .....) on major highways, along with lots of other vehicles abandoned.

The most mildest climate you will get in Canada is BC mainland, closer to the border, so .......... if there's anyway you could maybe go from East to west and around in a loop that way you'd likely find it better to be in BC come Feb than most other places in Canada!! Just saying.

The deep southern states are the warmest so would be ideal to be winter months in that vicinity weather wise.

Not in any way shape or form trying to tell you what to do, we just personally know how cold these tin cans we shake down the highway in can be, to say nothing of driving on icy roads! Just some considerations you need to be aware of climate wise. That aside, you'll have a blast. Hubby and I have done 44 states so far including Alaska and Hawaii and all Canada, except for 1 territory and Newfoundland/Labrador which we are doing amongst many other provinces and states on a 6-7 month RV trip leaving here this end of April, and the only territory (created in recent years!) we've not done is Nunavut, and likely never will.

If there's anything we can do for you on your travels, don't be afraid to reach out by PM.

Wow that is impressive!! The plans are not set in stone as it were, it just appears that from the research ive done thus far, the least stressful way of obtaining/registering/insuring an RV is to get it all in BC, our original intent was to come over ontario way as we are flying our dogs over and that wouldve been a shorter flight.

But this is why were on here, to learn and find out what is beat to do with all the information and thanks for the friendly advice!! It is alway much appreciated!
