Hello Everyone! I've been reading, reading, reading everything I can get my hands on here and finally figured out how to take part. I'm a single mom/widow with 3 kids, the oldest getting ready to enter college, and the youngest in 5 years. I've been teaching school long enough to retire whenever I want, so I'm thinking my time will come in 5 years when everyone will be in college or out already. My thinking is that I can sell my house and use the equity in it to buy a used 35 to 40-ft motorhome (the 2012 Bounder 35K is my favorite so far) that I can live in with my 2 dogs and maybe my parrot. My parents think I'm horrible bc the kids won't have a home to go to on breaks, but Im pretty sure that will work out easily enough.
I'll only be 56 when I start out, so I'm thinking I should have a place to end up should I tire of the full timing life. I don't think I can afford to get a nice motorhome AND a permanent home, so I've been looking at the deeded lot retirement communities. I love the Texas Hill Country and think I will drive out tomorrow and check out the El Viaje Resort in Medina. It's only about an hour away.
I welcome any and all comments, ideas, and advice from all you experienced RVers. This site has been so educational already, and I am grateful for it.

Welcome Funbunny, Don't worry, the kids will find you wherever you are. Sounds like you have a plan and know what you want to do. My only question is why wait 5 years. I'm sure they have a high school where you want to go so the kids can finish up. A little traveling and seeing the USA can be a great part of their education and life experience.

welcome funbunny... Funny thing about kids, they always find us no matter where we are. I have 5 acres in central texas not far from you and a 40 ft diesel pusher. Started with a gas burner, no slides and worked up. one more move up to a tag axle and im done. But I started on the moving up in class while I was still working full time. Now I am semi-retired and we have our motor home and our home place which we now call "base camp".
Once you retire it suddenly becomes very difficult to get banks to pay attention.

Have you ever done any RVing?
There are people who buy RV's only to find out they don't like this way of living.
