Howdy!
Guess it time to quit lurking and really introduce ourselves. My husband, Buck and I, Laura are new RVers. We actually been at it about 1 1/2 years now. We've always loved camping but getting too old to climb in and out of a tent and that ground is flipping hard and I have never found an air mattress worth spit! So...
We have some friends that bought a 5th wheel and we got the bug! With all the bennies of dropping a trailer and having the vehicle available, we didn't want to pull something so small that my (imaginary) claustrophobia was a problem and he didn't want to pull the guts out of his truck! Solution, Class A!
We started looking and quickly found a really nice used Fleetwood Flair with little mileage, had been well cared for and the price was amazing. We bought it without even test driving (stupid, huh?). But God watches out for fools and little children and we definitely qualify in the former category. We were so blessed (I think?)!
We have had it out as far as Bend, OR and more often close to home and I couldn't love it more. Now we are looking for toad (we need something to take care of that pesky transportation problem).
Additionally, we are making it our own. New floors and dining area for renovations, new flat screen TV, change of antenna... I am sure we will sink a bunch of "love" money into it.
Yes, we have encountered repair costs. Cabin A/C, Cab A/C compressor, refrigerator problems, commode repair. But it hasn't not been crazy expensive stuff. I have probably spent more on wants than needs in the long run, which is always a good scale to weigh by in my opinion.
I am blessed that the DH is a retired aircraft mechanic and he seems to be able to translate those skills into RV maintenance. Go figure?! I don't want him doing the hard stuff, we will let the kids that are still working for a living take that on, but its handy, to be sure.
So there we are. Its nice you are all here. I have laughed and winced and damn near cried at some of the trials and crazy fun, but I am happy to ask to join a great group.
