Hey folks,
Well just signed up for iRV2 and Im looking forward to learning and sharing all I can. We are looking to purchase a used coach. A quad slide, tag axel, 45' Prevost should do just fine.......Now back to reality, I really like the 91-95 Fleetwood American Eagle. Ive looked at a few 39 footers and Im sold...Ive been warned that a 300hp wont get out of its own way, is this true? also Ive heard to stay away from the 5 speed tranny and stick with the 6...true?? Any advice as to what to look for or items I should be aware of? I sure appreciate any and all imput...Thanks so much.
Brett

Brett;

Welcome to iRV2. I am sorry I can't give you any advice on diesel coaches as I have only owned gas. I am sure you will get some replies. Browse the forums and don't hesitate to ask questions as we have a great group here who like to help when they can.

Don

Hi Brett and welcome to iRV2.

300 hp is plenty for that vintage of rig - that was considered high power in those days (200-220 was common) and the coaches were no where near as heavy as today. A good rule of thumb is 1 hp for every 100 lbs of weight, so 300 hp will move 30,000 lbs nicely.

The Allison 6 speed is a great tranny. There were some coaches back then with 4 speeds, but I'm not familiar with any 5 speeds. As you might guess, the 6 speed performs better than the 4 speed.
