Figure out what floor plan you like in a size you can handle both driving and financially. Set a budget and see what you can buy for the money.

Buy a 2-3 year old gently used MH, best bang for the buck.

Thank you for all the nice welcomes. I will be traveling with my 3 pups to see some of this great country we live in. I have been retired for a year and studying all the different floorplans. I'm leaning toward the Class C with a slide. I think it would give my pups a chance to escape when I walk around. I really like the Four Winds 25C and Fleetwood Tioga 25G.

I just had to walk away from a 25G due to what appeared to be moisture in the front cab. And found a very nice 25C but had to walk away from it too, when you cranked it up it ran rough enough to churn butter. My quest continues and my styles are fairly open too. Like the Chateau 28A, I think it would do even though it doesn't have a slide it is a little longer and would give enough floor space for the pups.

I am finding that my budget is probably a bit low. around $30000. I will have to have high miles to get newer years, or low mileage with older years. Now I just need to find the perfect one for me. If I find one and have questions about it I know this group will be able to answer anything I could come up with. Thank you all again for the warm welcome.

We owned a Class C for ~10 years which worked will for us. At the time my wife was showing dogs (Pekingese, a small breed) and she would stack 6 crates across the bunk for dogs, which were crated at night. This gave us the room to move around etc. Later we also owned a Bull Mastiff which could easily jump to the bunk & she loved to stay up there.

If your pups are small it might work for you also.

The budget you have can easily buy a nice used Class C, I would suggest that if you are not in a hurry to keep looking. Usually the prices get more attractive in the dead of winter. Keep an eye out on Craigslist, there seems to be more activity there on the bigger items.

After all the years spent working and following time schedules it is sometimes hard to remember that I am, in fact, not in a hurry. It would make sense to hold off until this summer RV sales rush is over. I have noticed the inventory was much less than when I was looking earlier this year. I will still be keeping my eye out for my perfect motorhome but have no rush, especially with your pointing out that the hunting could be less pricey this fall/winter.

My pups are Havanese. I have mom Bella, dad Bailey and daughter Brianna. They are fairly small with Bella being a bit overweight at around 22 lbs. We don't mention it to her, she's kind of sensitive. They are getting up in age now so no jumping. I'm thinking under table doggie beds with a gate for traveling. Mastiffs are absolutely wonderful dogs and I can't think of a better use for the upper cab bed. Way cool - would love to have seen her make that jump.
