MotoMac reporting aboard

Howdy to everyone from a new RV owner.

Who am I?:

Currently living in Nampa, Idaho

Married, two sons, both grown up and gone.

Retired in August 2011.

Retired from U.S. Navy Submarine Service in 1985 after 22 years service.

Retired from U.S. Dept of State Foreign Service (Diplomatic Corps) in 2011 after 20 years service.

I have had three toy haulers that I towed with a pickup truck, but finally got tired to living with the gas/oil/dirt fumes and bought a used Class A.

Current RV is a 1999 Itasca SunFlyer 33, purchased last week. I have only been able to drive it from the seller's house to a storage lot because there isn't room for it beside the house and the HOA doesn't allow it to be parked out front. Also, I am nursing 3 fractured/bruised ribs, so will wait for them to heal before venturing behind the wheel again.

The primary usage for this RV is to transport my wife and I to various motorcycle races (vintage motocross) up and down the west coast. We will be towing a 6 x 12 cargo trailer with the bikes inside. Usually in the off-season, we pretty much stay home. However, with this Class A we plan to make some other trips; mostly to visit old friends and some relatives.

I have zero experience driving anything this big. I have driven a couple of flat-nose vehicles (where the driver is over or ahead of the front wheels) but that was about five decades ago. I'm sure I will deposit some sidewall rubber on an occasional curb until I get used to it again.

We both have signed up with a local RV Driving School for one day of training on general RV information and operation, plus a second day of driving instruction.

I've got a couple of questions to post up, but will do some searches first to ascertain if they have been asked previously.

Cheers,

Mac

Mac welcome to the forum. Lots of good folks with good info to share here. Read the various threads and ask questions as they come up.
Good luck with the new coach and new adventure. The driving school is a good idea. There are also lots of U-tube videos with good info on RVs. Just do a search on the various topics you are interested in.
Good luck

Thanks, y'all....

Thanks for the welcome from everyone.

I finally sold my toy hauler, so now there's room for it at home. If only the HOA gestapo were so accommodating! Sigh.... For now, it will be shuttled back and forth between home and the self-storage place. Looks like I might have to get 'creative'....

On the way home yesterday, we wandered around the neighborhood a bit and even spent some time in a church parking lot that was totally empty. My wife tried driving it around the parking lot and then took it all the way home and parked it. She was nervous, but did just fine.

I'll be making a few updates on things like backup camera and stereo, but otherwise am perfectly happy.

Again, thanks for the welcome!

Mac
