Glad to have you here. You didn't say where you live, but a visit to a good RV show like the one in Hershey or tampa would be a good idea. You will have the chance to see most of the models side by side. This would help you in making a decision. If you can't attend then find an RV dealer near you and go check out their inventory. Good luck with your search!

Hi Julie and Anthony;
Welcome to the RV world. You will enjoy it very much.

You are asking a very large open ended question that is very difficult to answer without writing tomes of what ifs.

It would help if you would tell us several things.

How long each year will you be using it (2 week vacation and weekends to full time)?

Do you plan to travel far?

Do you have any preferance in the 5er you looked at?

Do you have a Tow Vehicle?

Do you have a budget?

Will you use resorts or boondock primarily?

The help you can get from the thread should clarify a lot of things for you. One topic that is always hot is matching the 5er and tow vehicle (TV).

P.S. - some punctuation would make reading your post easier.

First, a hearty : Welcome!

Second, get familiar with current owners and ask plenty of questions. Their discoveries, regrets…desired upgrades…

Third: Flush-out out the “needs” from the “want’s”. What modern amenities have priority? Long showers? Huge bed? Closet space? Bicycles, boat-carrying, etc. Hobbys: fishing, computer-use, collecting, knitting…that might need special consideration? Pets, and the grandchild’s hobbies? Her clothing & personal items.

Fourth: Locations to camp?: via State & federal parks [length limitations], camping clubs, or boon-docking w/o hookups [ie, Need for inverter/converter, solar power backup, Residential fridge? ] Laundry on-board or not?

Fifth: Seasonal vs. Full-time use.How might you schedule your summer vs. winter travel s. Storage of seasonal clothing and hobby materials at a stick-n-bricks or on-board?

Sixth: Floorplan, floorplan, floorplan. Even the slightest “I’m will accommodate that...” might be a nagging irritant once you’ve settled in. Find the one that works flawlessly for your privacy and comfort throughout the day and night. Visualize your movements and what items you may collect while travelling.

Seven: have fun with the shopping. For many, that’s the thrilling beginning point!

You came to the right place for info.....There's a lot of folks here that can answer any questions you have. We have a 5th wheel and love it. Its pretty spacious. There are 5ers with bunks, just be prepared to loose a lot of space in what would be your living room. My friend had a Cougar 330mks which has a interesting bunk model. It was great for his kids, but it sure cut down on the main areas where the family would gather together. Most 5ers come with a sofa air bag, which might be a consideration, if your only doin a short trip now and again. Get on the web and start looking at bunk models and remember every other 5er you look at has either a pull out couch or an airbag couch, which our daughter and grandkids used once or twice. We looked for about a year at different models and floor plans before settling on our current model.

all above have good advice, if you haven't rv'd before I suggest contacting campgrounds to see if they rent trailers on site. Many do. Stay in a number of them. Living there for 2 or 3 days will help you make a better list of preferences. Have a great retirement and ENJOY

thanks everyone by the way we live in Chattanooga Tennessee I have noticed the loss in living room space with the bunkbed models have thought of just a queen blow up bed so we don't have to do the couch everynight thanks again for your input
