New camper owners Lexington, SC

My wife and I just purchased our first camper. We are totally new to the camping scene but are very excited and looking forward to getting out on the road and seeing new places and meeting new people. For our first camper we chose a CrossRoads Z-1. It is 30ft long and has 4 bunk beds in the rear for taking guests and family along with us.

My wife thinks im silly because I drug her out of the house last weekend to camp at a rv park less than a mile from our home. I mainly just wanted to try everything out and make sure everything worked properly and that we had all the supplies/accessories we needed before hitting the long mileage trips next month. I also wanted to PRACTICE setting up the camper and taking it back down as I have never done this before. It turns out we met some campers at Camping World last Saturday and talked to them well over an hour. When we got to the rv park later that evening, low and behold, our newly made friends were camping in the same park. We invited them to dinner and cooked out on the grill. We sat outside and talked well in to the next morning. On our first trip out and less than a mile from our home we made some terrific friends with whom we intend to keep in touch with. We are planning on hooking up with them again in Montgomery, AL later this summer. Now my wife dosent think I'm so silly for draging her out to the local rv park. In fact she is now just as, if not more excited than I am.

Im excited and ready to camp. Our local camping experience last weekend only confirms that camping is going to be a much more enjoyable passtime than staying in hotels could ever be. Also if the couple we met last weekend are any indication of the type of people we will meet in this hobby then I can only ask why did we wait so long.

I'm looking forward to meeting and talking with everyone here. Hopefully we even meet up somewhere on that long black ribbon of highway.

Crossroads30,

Congrats and welcome. Nothing wrong with going local. We try to go once a month to Lake Wateree State Park a mere 20 miles from us. You will find many great places and you don't have to drive far.

We have taken our bike to Great Falls/Lake Wateree several times and loved the area. Lake Wateree is definetly on our list. I think I might drag the camper out this weekend and head for Dreer Island State Park up in Chapin. ... :-)
