New from Tacoma, WA
Hello,
We're not current RV owners but are the process of figuring out which kind we want to get. We have two young children (3.5 and 1.5) and are considering a smaller Class C. This looked like a good place to find out more info from experienced RV owners.

Best advice I can give you is to rent something first, similar what you want to buy. It's a good reality check!

Welcome form Anacortes. We're long past the "small children" years until our grandchildren have some. We do have two rather large four-legged "children".
My only comment is to look at long-term requirements when your children are early teens. Would you prefer the privacy of a separate master bedroom? Are you willing to take the dinette apart every morning and night to make/breakdown the main bed? Does anyone have claustrophobia? The overhead large bed in a Class C has very little headroom.
We started out with a 26' Class C and soon regretted it. It didn't have slide-outs and the "double" bed wasn't big enough for two. We sold it after a season and a half. Our current rig is a good fit for our needs. Dedicated queen size aft bedroom, pull out sofa/queen-size bed in the living area and a convertible dinette that can sleep a couple of youngsters. The bedroom and the dinette/living room both have slides.
It doesn't take long to get used to a 32-footer if you get a bit of instruction help from your local transit agency or school district. A rig about the size of ours is a good starter. A "small" Class C won't meet your needs for very long with two growing kids.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome.
Good things to think about, frankdamp. Is your current rig a Class A or a larger Class C? 32 feet? I must admit that the thought of driving a Class A is intimidating. Mostly because of the distance from the drivers seat to the front of the hood which is much further in a Class A.
Also interested in hearing different tips on buying used RV's. Does it matter how old they are? What about mileage? I definitely plan to pay for a thorough inspection before purchasing...any recommendations on where to get that done in WA?

Welcome, My advise based on experience is as stated to rent first and experience the ride and handling. We went step by step from a tow behind upthrough a 5th wheel then jumped into a class A gas. If we had it to do over we should have jumped right into a class A, which is much easier to handle than you think but you need a towable for when you arrive at your destination, but 4 wheels down. Don't buy a tow buggy to put your toad up on to it adds weight and much easier to tow 4 wheel down on most small cars or SUVs. Children will grow into the MH and love it through the years as you will also and it is tax deductable like your house payment. Hope you find the right one for you before Spring so you can enjoy it, don't rush it just find the right one as if it was the only one you will invest in but may not be the last one as you grow to enjoy the life of get aways.

Yes, I think renting first is definitely the way to go. With that said, I'm still trying to get a feel for what is or is not a good deal on a used coach. For example, is the following worth $29k assuming it is in good condition?
