New from Vancouver Island! Feedback please.

Hi. We're Brenda and Dana from Nanoose Bay on our beautiful Vancouver Island. We are just retired health care professionals and looking forward to finding our next RV. We had a small C-Class 15 years back and enjoyed it. We are very experienced sailors and we still "twist the wrist" on our 1100 cc motorcycle that will be our toad.
We research things extensively - travel, purchases - well, everything. We would really like some feedback from forum members. We are leaning towards another C-Class for the obvious safety reasons and the reduced cost of repairs (truck parts vs bus parts). Having said that, if the right A Class came along in our budget range ($25,000 USD) we would consider it.
Well, our research shows us that there are many more Class A MHs in our price range than C-Class MHs.
We have an advert running locally online looking for an RV and have received several responses, and only 1 has caught our interest and it happens to be a Class A. It is a 2001 Fleetwood Storm, 30 feet, 30,000 on the clock, and an asking price of $22,000 CDN. Ford V10 on Ford chassis with one slide.
Is there anyone out there with experience with this model who could advise us of things to look for, problems with this year/manufacturer? We would appreciate it greatly. We know to start at the top, looking at the roof, delamination, window seals, and hopefully maintenance records.
RVs in our area go for about 225-250% of American priced RVs, so if this one is good ( we look at it tomorrow) it's quite a deal.
Thanks in advance, and we look fwd to being active members of this group and lifestyle.
Cheers!

Brenda and Dana,

Welcome to the Forum! You came to the right place for answers.

We bought used and had to do a few repairs but are happy with the buy. Did not want payments.

Have them show you everything WORKS. Hook up the water hose, put pressure in the lines and see if there are any leaks. Any water stains inside including inside cupboards. Check out drains, do they flow good. Does the water heater work? It won't take long to heat up if it does. Does the fridge cool, the AC's, the furnace? Does it heat and work. The stove, does it light and the oven heat up. Does it look like it has been well maintained? WAS IT STORED INSIDE?

We have a 2004 Itasca with a V10. No issues with it at all. Changed the oil, filters, couple vaccum hoses needed to be replaced. We were able to get new keys at the Ford dealer.

New digital TV, hands free radio for the phone, and a tow system for our TOAD.

If it meets all the other criteria and your gut say go then offer them $19,000. They will probably take $20,000.

Good luck and come back and talk. There is an owner's forum at the top that might help with this particular brand too.

Lynne

Well, here she is. Not the one from Vancouver. It sat there for 2 years and 2 years in Manitoba, and it wasn’t drivable due to a flat tire etc. She (a nice widow) was asking $49,900 CDN for a 2006 and we walked away. Too much work to test drive it..
Our 2001 Triple E came with everything. Couple had owned it 12 years, had lots of additions included - actually everything in the RV right down to the forks and spoons. They were retiring from RVing and wanted nothing, GPS, Sirius radio, tools. Even got a toad into the deal! A flat tow Pontiac Sunfire Auto with the 4 speed tramnsmission. Brand new $450 brake job. Great car! We will sell our 2013 Mazda3 Sport with Sky Active and apply the profits into future upgrades and repairs.

Took us 3+ years to find, but well worth the wait.

Welcome to the site. Glad you are happy with your find, it sounds like a good deal for sure. Funny how much cheaper you can buy a class A compared to a class C but I guess people worry about driving them and fuel costs.
Did you buy it on the mainland? Just wondering what it cost to take the ferry with the toad if you did.

Good deals are out there you just have to look, I came across a 2007 fleetwood class c tioga last summer with 6500 miles on it and it was stored indoors all of its life, almost a barn find...lol

Hey Brenda & Dana...
I too recently retired. We have our motorcycles and a fun Safari C too. Today I tried to change the kitchen faucet, damn it is tight, continue tomorrow! If I could just get wrench on that nut! LOL.
Beautiful rig you guys! Now the fun begins.
