New in Maryland

Hello all,
We have backpacked around and going to try this living indoors thing. We may try full time travel when we retire. Currently not locked in to any particular state, though know some states that we would not retire to.
Some concern how the trailer world would be, we rented a travel trailer in September. My spouse loved it. A LOT. I'm thinking she may be done backpacking.

We purchased our tow vehicle in mid September and a travel trailer recently.
The truck was 2 months late on our plan, the trailer 3 months early.

Now to learn how all this goes together and what we need to know and

Any advice listened to, heeded... hmm

'Welcome' from the Eastern Shore or Maryland!!

Have fun with your new setup! We tent camped with the Ecology Corp while the
Kids were in school. It was always an adventure with 20 kids and 20 parents camping in the fall and winter.
We feel like we earned an upgrade now that the kids are almost done college so we bought a Class A RV.

Welcome Losthikers. I'm new here as well...researching motorhomes. I lived in G'burg abd Damascus before moving to WV. Spent a lot of my youth in Rockville. Small world!

BTW, we've had pretty good dealings with Beckley's, in Thurmont, for past RV /parts/service.

She grew up around here, forces us to ride to Jimmy Cone. Well may be not forced.
We have spent some time lost in West Virginia. Yes, we need ground clearance and a trailer to survive DollySods and Green Ridge

Beckleys was where we had rented our first trailer. The Starcraft Launch 16RB was so spacious.

Welcome! I grew up in Takoma Park. My mom moved to Gaithersburg, and I camped at Little Bennett in upper Montgomery County when I would visit her.

Another welcome from a former West Virginian. I'm thinking the TT may only enhance the hiking, especially if you frequent the places mentioned. The Dolly Sods-Canaan Valley areas were some of my favorite playgrounds back in the late 50s through the 60s. We moved to OR in 73 and love it here, but return to WV nearly every Summer to visit family and friends. We still visit the Sods and Canaan, but with the Mountaintop Hunting Club and environmental restrictions it is just not the same. DW grew up in Parsons, and I in a little town called Elk Garden not far from the MD border at Kitzmiller on Route 42.

By the way, where is Green Ridge? That may be another place to visit this Summer, thanks.

I'm thinking you will love the TT. Another good boondocker is a 4WD TC which is what we've had until recently.

Best of luck!

Steve

Thank you. we toyed with property in WV but never found the right parcel.

Green Ridge State Forest, Flintstone, MD. We found it great fun for easing folks outdoors that do not camp or hike.

What is a TC?

We will be hauling this trailer with Chevy 2500HD 4x4 crewcab. I'm thinking it will be good most of the time. Springtime it gets auxiliary trans cooler.

Some nice Corp of Engineers campsites near Sideling Hill on I68 if you want to ease into boondocking yet still be near civilization.

A camping bucket list place for me is Fort Frederick exit 12 on I70 when they are doing a re-enactment.

We did our leaf peeping fall trip at Summerville Lake Resort in WV off I79. Gorgeous!

TC=truck camper. IMHO, ideally they are good for a month or so with 2 people, although we have exceeded both time and inhabitants with no problems. I also wouldn't think they would be suitable for full timing, but with a diesel powered 4wd truck, the largest fresh water and holding tanks available, and with generator and AC they are excellent boondockers, again, IMHO. That's what we've had for the last 35 or so years and they have served us well for both across the US trips and off the beaten path.

Thanks for the info about Green Ridge.

Steve
