New Jersey Garden State Parkway

Greetings fellow RV'rs, my wife and I are thrilled to join your ranks, this is our 2nd season out with our new 5th toy hauler. We are looking to travel to Cape May NJ in a couple wks, is anyone familiar with Garden State Parkway?, I have heard of low clearance bridges between interchanges 129-145, our height is 13.5 ft, anyone experience this route with same height?

The GSP has a few low overpasses There is an overpass that ranges from 13' to 13' 7". The overpass is an arch and the shoulder lanes are 13'. The center lane is 13.7. That does not leave a lot of room for error.

I would contact the GSP authority for better info. You can't afford a mistake.

The GSP is open to RVs for it's whole length. North of exit 105 trucks are banned because some arched overpasses are too low in the outside lanes.

New Jersey @ AARoads - Garden State Parkway North - Woodbridge to Newark

South of exit 105, all underpasses are fine for 13'6" clearance.

If your 13'5" your gonna be cutting it real close at the overpasses in union county. The center lanes are higher (avoid the outside lanes the clearance is 12'2"). The overpass at exit135 is only 13'5" in the center lane and I believe there's one that's even lower a few exits north of there. As someone said call the turnpike authority.

I appears that you're coming down from the north, heading south to CM - if the low overpasses on the north end of the GSP are troublesome, you could take the NJTP south to it's junction with I-195, and then head directly east, across the state, to get to the GSP.

You don't want to go too far south on the Turnpike, if you decide that, because it gets farther and farther away from the GSP.

I see your from Easton Pa. Take 287 south to the parkway. It'll put you on just north of the Driscoll bridge. You'll miss all of those overpasses but add about 10 miles to your trip.

I have to say the GSP is a bit unnerving with the bridges. As others have said, they are arched, so the center lanes are where you want to be. At your height, there are some that are way to close for my comfort - I second the advice of calling to make sure you know where those are.

Realize that full size buses travel the entire length of the GSP with no lane restrictions so you will be fine.

If you are traveling from Easton, I agree with the previous poster that you should take 78 to 287 and that will lead you right to the GSP where it is like 8 lanes across the Driscoll Bridge.

Safe travels!

Also, the lanes are narrower on the parkway, especially on and north of the Driscoll bridge.
