One thing this forum is full of are experiences, opinions, and facts (although it is sometimes hard to distinguish between the them &#128576 from well intentioned members. Here are things that we considered:

How will you use the coach (I will say coach ... But you may ultimately select a 5'er, or travel trailer),
Will size matter in where you plan visit,
Will you be towing a car,
Does the floor plan meet your needs and wants (VERY IMPORTANT THAT DW IS SATISFIED HERE),
New or pre-owned,
Engine type (gasser or diesel)

The last two items are real hot buttons on this and other forums. IMHO, everyone has valid points for those two items.

Because of our age (over 65), we were given the excellent advice to purchase your third coach first. We don't have the resources to recover from a poor decision so we researched (RV forums, dealerships, RV EXPO's, talked with friends and strangers about their RV experiences) for two years before pulling the trigger on our coach.

Take your time and enjoy the process...and welcome again to the forum and the RV lifestyle.

Congrats on your impending retirement! I'm still not used to being retired, just feels like I'm on a rather long vacation

I totally agree with all the points you've made in this post. My wife's needs/wants/whatever you want to call them are the most important part of this. Personally I could sleep on most anything and be physically fine every morning, her not so much. I want her to be comfortable and to really enjoy being in the coach for more than just a weekend.

I agree that moving into a diesel pusher for our first coach is a big first step, but I don't see the need to start off with say a class C when we plan to travel from the east coast to the west. I'd like to see us in something that has enough power to travel in the mountains and take us many miles at a clip in comfort and style. I've always been someone to do the research, and we're definitely doing that here too. Planning to attend the RV show in Harrisburg PA this September, and between now and then we are trying to see a few coaches along the way. Newmar has gotten pretty high on our list of coaches we like. We do not want to get a coach so big that many state and federal parks are off limits; my understanding is that when you get over around 35' some of the parks won't let you in. Still plenty research to be done, and I appreciate the tips and suggestions I am getting here.

Thanks again for the welcomes and well wishes.
