New Member and Potential Full-Timer

Greetings,

I just joined out of a desire to learn as much as possible before potentially committing myself to living in a travel trailer next year. Admittedly, I've never owned a trailer or RV, and the last time I stayed in one was about 20 years ago when I'd spend summers in my dad's old Shasta.

Circumstances and desire have me looking at 20-something footers that my Sierra 1500 can pull, but which will offer reasonable living conditions for me and a rather unruly black lab, with occasional visits by my kids. I'll be returning from Afghanistan soon, own a home which I still need to rent out, and am frankly tired of paying rent to others and having nothing to show for it. I figure the simpler transient life might be up my alley--at least until I retire from the military and move back to the house.

I look forward to browsing everyone's threads and posts, and contributing or asking questions whenever I feel the urge.

Thanks for the warm welcome! Been browsing and have already learned a thing or two. It will truly be an adventure for the first few months as I adjust to a home I can take with me!

I was first introduced to full-timing at Recruiter School in South Carolina. A classmate was stationed in Georgia (coincidentally where my home station now is), and while the rest of us stayed in lodging on post or local motels, he simply pulled his 5th wheel a few hours north and had all the comforts of home in a similar setting to what he'd left. Before we graduated, I did some basic preventive maintenance on his truck so he felt a bit better driving to his new post in Southern California.

For better or worse I need to select a trailer based on both a low price and the capabilities of my truck (if I could afford it, I'd be looking at a nice 5th wheel and a new 1-ton!), but from what I've found so far a decent trailer can be had for well under $10k which will not put too much strain on the Jimmy. See everyone around the forums!
