Thumbs up New Member Check In

The email I received said I should introduce myself here.

My name is Tom, I'm 55 years-old and currently in the Seattle area and live in my 1986 Class A motor home. I don't use the term fulltimer because I don't travel due to funding limitations (hard to find work when you're my age and been out of work for several years).

But I do love living in my class A. Everything I need is just a few steps away and due to the smaller size (as compared to a home) there is less to clean. Plus it's a quite a snap to relocate (versus living in a home and having to move all your belongings).

Looking forward to meeting other RV enthusiasts on this site. Like many on this sight (from what I've seen) I'm mechanical and have tinkered with many things on my rig.

All the best to you and yours,

-tom

Hi John, thanks for the suggestion. I have looked into that in the past with disappointing results. So many of those positions seem aimed at people who have some type of income (SS, retirement, etc.). For those of us without any residual income, many of these positions don't offer a living wage. Also, many seem aimed towards couples.

I talked with a park owner in Texas once, who was looking for a park manager/maintenance person/grounds keeper (one person). He provided a space and all utilities, etc. and paid $100 a week on top of that. The responsibilities included manning the phone and office during business hours. Being available for off-hour check ins, grounds keeping and minor repairs in plumbing/electrical issues at the park. When I crunched the numbers on a '40 hour work week' (even though it would often be more then that) it ended up less than minimum wage!

That's just one example of what I've run into on that front. Other experiences were similar.

7 more years until I qualify for SS (if it's still around).

I registered on a couple workkamper type sites. The only one I got any activity from seems to be closed down now (sigh).

Thanks again for your input.

All the best to you and yours.

Hi Tom, and welcome to IRV2! Sorry to hear that you're out of a job right now, it's really tough out there. Don't give up, you've got a lot of experience to offer some company! We always need more "tinkerers" around here, just jump in when you find something that interests you! Sure glad to have you with us! Hang in there!
