New Member from Oregon Intro

Hello all. My name is Ian.

I figured I have been lurking on this site long enough that I might as well introduce myself and add something to the conversation if possible.

We recently purchased a 2017 Aspire 44b and are already using the heck out of it. In fact it's only seen the garage for a couple days since February. We currently have her parked in Newport Oregon so if you are around stop by and say hi.

I bought the RV primarily for a place to sleep while I'm on fishing trips and so my wife and kids would come with me while I do it.

Anyway, this site has been an awesome recourse for me and I'm sure many others to do research on. Thanks to all of the members who have spent their time and energy to share their knowledge.

Top of the morning to you! Since you're here, can you give us some tips about US-20 to Detroit Lake from the south?

We are planning to be there in August for the solar eclipse, and I'm wondering what the trip will be like through that area.

Any thoughts and hints?

Also, WELCOME to the forum. You came to the right place.

Tom

Sorry about the error in my last post; I was asking about US 20 in Oregon. I guess there isn't one. I should have mentioned US 26.

We are going to the Detroit Lake area for the solar eclipse in August, and are wondering about the drive through those mountains.

Actually Detroit Lake is on OR 22 east of Salem, OR.

Not knowing how you are approaching from the south I'll give both ways.

Coming up I-5 near Salem exit #253 and go east to the park. Good 4/2 lane road nothing special about it. Coming up on US 97 follow signs for US 20/Salem/Coast. Stay on US 20( You might consider stopping is Sisters sorta a neat town.) up and over the pass. 5 miles or so 5-6% downgrade. At the bottom keep to right to take OR 22. At that point you have a couple of minor pulls, nothing exciting. Several 40-45 mph corners and a few 30-35.

If I mis-read something sorry. Are you coming from North? Yes there is US 26 and US 20. Anyway US 26 over Mt.Hood is a good road, hard pull going east mild downgrade. 6% down grade for 5+ miles going into Warm Springs.

If you end up on HWY 26 it's a nice drive. My very first trip in our new RV went through the pass during a snow storm in Winter and it was still fine. I'm August when you plan on driving through it's beautiful. Hopefully you get some time to explore as well.

Government Camp is neat and so is Bend and the surrounding area. Being that close the the Columbia River Gorge you should check that out as well. Breath taking.
