Just joined this site... and I am impressed already. I can see me spending hours reviewing all the good information that is here.

My wife and I are retired (for about 9 years) and started using a travel trailer a couple of years ago. We loved it and decided to move up to a motor home. We purchased a used 2001 Winnebago Journey 34 DL and love it. We are considering being full timers but are just not sure if we are willing to give up the house (yet). Worse case is we try this for a few months/years and then either sell the house or continue just making extended trips in the MH.

Again, great site with a wealth of information.

Welcome to IRV2! We are fulltimers and love it. We do make our daughters back yard a home base so that we can spend time with the Grandkids. Some months we just hang around home and other times we head out for awhile. We ended up renting the house out because we couldn't sell it. Fulltiming is not for everyone. Maybe if you took a long trip and see how everything goes, you would have an easier time deciding. Check out the 2012 National IRV2 Rally thread. We went to our first rally last September and loved it. Met a lot of nice people, had a great time and learned alot as well. Happy Travels!

Hi folks, and welcome to IRV2! It's a hard decision to go full-time. My wife and I have been kicking it around, but just can't seem to risk taking the big plunge. Good luck & God bless!

Welcome dlboarman, glad you joined us. Take the trips that you want to take. If it gets to be aggravating to go home just to maintain the house then it's time to sell. Otherwise, enjoy your time on the road and your time at home.

Hi folks,
I have a good friend who likes to invest in multi-family properties.
It is still very much a buyer's market. So maybe think about converting your house to multi-family ( or not ).
But rent it. Get it listed with a national real estate chain and let the local agent manage it for you.
Rent it out as a temporary or short term corporate residence.
Make sure you include all utilities including Internet at an appropriate rent.
Let the agent use an iPhone or an iPad to demonstrate the condition of the property between tenants.
Then maybe once a year fly back for a one day surprise inspection.
When or if the market returns, then sell.
Meanwhile you have maybe some kind of income.
Surprise inspections by iPhone would always ease your mind.
