Greetings from the beautiful Columbia River Gorge, from the Washington side. I have been reading forums and sites for about a year now, trying to decide how to get back to camping, and maybe full-time. We played around with building a rigid foam “standie”. Our TV at the time was limited to about 2,500 pounds, so we knew we wanted light weight. Between both our full-time jobs we just couldn’t seem to get beyond the planning stage. Then a friend introduced us to the guys/brothers who own Cozy Cruiser, in Eugene, OR. They build some beautiful tear drops, and were amenable to talking with us about my wants and needs. About 2 hours into the session, one of them said “ Wait, you don’t want a modified tear drop, you want a canned ham.”. Lights went on in my brain and I had to agree with them. It didn’t hurt that one of the brothers’ wife was after him to build her a canned ham, too . Two more hours of tossing around ideas and we left our drawings with them, to await a decision on wether they would attempt our build. Turns out they will, and we are hoping to pick it up before Thanksgiving!
It will still be small, and lightweight - all aluminum trailer and frame. 10 feet long inside, 6 foot tall inside and 6 foot wide, outside.
Our TV has changed to a 1997 Montero, so weight isn’t as big a big problem as it might have been.
More details, and photos, as the build progresses. They are awaiting the delivery of the aluminum, now scheduled for Oct. 24. Keep your fingers crossed for us! We’d REALLY like to have it for camping over the Thanksgiving holidays. I am a school nurse and DH is a school bus driver, so we have 5 days off.
Thanks for such a supportive, informative and friendly site!
