New member - moving over from boating

Just saying hi.

DW and I (ok, mostly just me) have been sailing for decades, in boats from small trailer sailors to keel boats to 40 ft. We were going to make the jump to trawlers, but with the kids now grown and scattered to the wind, and DW saying for decades that she'd really like to travel the country by RV, I think it's a good time to consider a move to a land yacht. I'm under no illusions that it'll save money, though.

DW thinks we should get a Class B or maybe a B+, so she can drive it (her words). She likes the MB Sprinter-based units from Winnebago and Airstream.

As I'll keep working even on the road, and she'll retire in a year or two but consult when the mood strikes, I think a Class A would be more practical, even if I end up doing all the driving. For what an Airstream B costs, we could get a clean used Class A DP and have a ton more room. I still have a Class A CDL, but I don't think there's any way I'll convince DW to attempt getting licensed (R endorsement in NY), so there's that.

Anyway, I've been lurking for quite a while, and thought it was time to poke my head in and say 'hi'. Cheers.

We love our Class A but everybody's got their own needs and wants. Hope you find the perfect rig for your needs!

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

Welcome. Good luck on your search. We started off with a Class C (sprinter) but after a 4 month trip realized that would be too small for full time. So now in a 40 foot Class A DP.
Rent a smaller unit for a week or two trip and see how it fits.
Enjoy the adventure.

Thanks for the welcomes. Renting is probably the best idea at this point. I have a (strong) feeling that a B or a small C is going to get real small real fast, assuming we can even rent a B. Especially if we have to use it as a work space, too.

Welcome to IRV2. Check out RV.org. They rate RVs and have information on the selection and dealing process. Good RV hunting.
