Finally joined!
I bought my first RV. It is a very neglected 2005 Winnebago Sightseer 34A workhorse. The shirt is torn, the jeans are split and the socks need mending but it’s all mine. So far though it is structurally solid.

It kinda looks like the wife and I are going to have a hard time figuring this all out and stay under budget, but I’m glad I found this site. Will try to post some pics.

I have the same chassis...W22 with the 8.1 engine and the Allison 1000 transmission.

Do you know any history of the engine/transmission maintenance that's been performed?

Unfortunately I do not have any information. It has two pry bar marks on the door jamb so I just say
I got such a good deal I practically stole it.

I have removed the jackknife and dining booth working on the floor and just found the complete folder of books. Thank The Lord!

I'll suggest cleaning the MAF and replacing the air filter.

I also suggest new wires and plugs along with replacing both radiator hoses and coolant.

Do a transmission fluid drain and use Transynd.

How many miles are on it?

Welcome and congratulations!

No matter if it needs some serious love or is pristine, every RV needs work and tweeks to make them our own.

Obviously, you will need to address drive train issues first and then major systems like water, lights, heat, and appliances. Don't let the project overwhelm you. Take it one step at a time and try and get a vision as to what you want as the final outcome so you can work toward the goal a little more with each task.

I am south of DC, so not that far at all if you need a second hand or just to bounce ideas against. I've had several RVs over the years and have worked on just about every kind of problem and improvement. I yield to the true wrench turners for serious engine work, but nothing else is not worth a challenge.

60,000 miles
Put your suggestions on my to do list. I though of those and belt but for some reason I didn’t think of the hoses.

The plan:
Tree top trimming over the coach Saturday.
Mostly interior work with a heater till spring. It is winterized and going to test engine antifreeze to see if it’s ok till spring change.

I’m figuring 17 more Saturdays and then 5 years of testing (weekend getaways) to work out all the bugs. After that find a wicked visor and a grass rug to drag behind it to all the places I’ve never seen.

Wife's family lived for 38 years in Severna Park and she and her sister both graduated from U of MD. We moved to FL from PA in 2007 and bought our first RV (99 Winnie Rialta) in 2012. IMO, most important thing is to maintain the chassis.... coach things can be fixed by any capable handyman... but none of them will strand you on the road. I'd also get a good roadside assistance program... no need to buy a separate one, just ask your insurance company. We have a great package with Progressive for USAA Members.
