I looked around and joined up.

I was given a Southwind MH .. VIN: 1GBKP37W1D3301112 ... I'd guess it is 30 -32 feet long, 6.5 Onan in it.

I've known this MH for about 12 years, performed some repairs on it for the owner.

The MH has sit for 6 years. I've been a mechanic for a few decades , so I have the engine running (48k miles on the chassis). It actually started easy with fresh fluids in it.

A rodent has chewed a hole in the fresh water pipe at the connection to the outside feed. The rodent is still in it's nest under the sink in the toilet area - dead

Tony, welcome to iRV2.com. We are glad to have you join us here and we look forward to reading of your adventures and eperiences. congratulations on the Southwind; what year is it? I see it is on the P37 Chevy chassis. Well, good luck in getting her fixed up. I suggest you ssnitize the water system (1/4 cup of bleach per 15 gal. of water). Let it run through each hot and cold faucet untill you can smell the bleach. Let sit for three hours. Drain and flush out the system and you should be ok. Take care and keep us posted.

Thanks for the welcome..

the MH is a 1983 unit..

Beyond "fresh , gray and black" water tanks , I know nothing about RV useage.

With some advice from a friend , I ran water down the drains of this MH.. no leaks from the tanks or pipes

Currently the money hurdle is tires. The front tires on this MH I would not travel at school zone speed with.

I'll wonder over to the Fleetwood forum and see if they let me in with this ol 1983 454 powered Fleetwood.

Crosley,

Congratulations and have fun. Have you started wondering yet how much this "free" motorhome is going to cost you? I bet it will be worth every penny. Enjoy!!

Enjoy your new gift. You are the first person I have ever heard of being given a MH. That seems to be a very nice thing someone did for you. You must be a good person as well. Keep us posted as to how everything goes.

Hello,
We have been reading & enjoying the IRV2.com website for a few weeks and decided to introduce ourselves. We recently bought our first motor home, a 1987 31 ft Winnebago Chieftan. It had been sitting for 2 years, but is in excellent shape. We have been doing a little work (re-sealing the roof, changing the twin beds into a queen, and cleaning everything). We are counting the days (11) until our camping trip to the Oregon Coast for a whole week---can't wait!!!

Thanks for all the great advice & pictures
