New member with transmission issues

This is our 4th year of wintering in Sarasota Florida. Just purchased 2014 Phaeton in July and it's our 1st trip to Florida in it. Purchased 2012 Ford Escape 4wd specifically so as to tow. Prior to departing Ohio I had vehicle serviced trans set for towing. We made stops on our way south and just as we were exiting for Cape Canaveral on Rt.95 we were told our toad was smoking. Pulled over immediately, vehicle wouldn't start, waited an hour for trans to cool down still wouldn't start. Had it towed to Ford Dealer nearby. Told trans is fried, completely ruined. Followed all instruction for flat towing; lower fluid, don't exceed 65 didn't go over 60, stopped every three 3 hours, they reccomend 6, ran engine shifted through gears for approx 10 minutes. Ford stated trans on back order, trying to find trans. No idea when it will be done, Ford paying for rental. I suggested to service manager they should ask Ford about installing Remco trans pump so it won't happen again, said they're checking on it. Service manager said he checked with Remco and the pump cost is $3500 plus installation. I saw a price of $900 + online plus installation. Has anyone had this problem and has Ford found a remedy?
Thanks

As I remember reading, the Remco pump is the remedy and to keep the warranty you need to get the Ford installed pump.

Welcome and glad to meet you!

This is the biggest reason I chose a toad with a transfer case (Jeep Liberty). I shift the transfer case to Neutral, then put the transmission into Park and remove the key (no steering wheel lock on these models). My transmission just sits there as though it is parked in a lot. No problems at all from upstate NY to Ocala, Fl.
