New Owners of a Used Newmar
Hi all ,
Mike and Rita and Buddy and Speedy here! We are the new owners of a 2000 Dutch Star. While we both grew up RV'ing with the parents for weekends and vacations, there has been a couple of decades gap for both of us. Now we are preparing to be full-timers with jobs. We plan to live in our MH while traveling from New Mexico to our land in Florida to build our new home AND travel week-ends on short trips. I am an artist so trips to art shows and craft fairs will be on the agenda as well. Looking forward to seeing you all "out there" in our travels.
On a side note, does anyone know where I can get the 2000 DS video tape that goes in the owners manual? Ours did not come with one and the folks at Newmar were less than helpful when I finally got a hold of them about it and I am not willing to pay $36.00 for it anyway. I'd really just like to see it but if there's nothing more than a Newmar commercial on it, then I don't really need it anyway.
Thanks

Hey thanks for the welcome! I actually have been lurking the forum since we started looking at buying an RV, and have already learned a lot. When we had pretty much decided on the Dutch Star I started looking at the Newmar forum especially. I've had a less than positive experience with Newmar already and it may just be the two folks I talked with were more interested in going home than talking to me (it turns out that it was about 10 min to quitting time) but they could have been friendlier I think. I'll give 'em a second chance though, I am going to need them someday, and while we haven't even picked up the coach yet, we love it! We've spent a lot of time in it looking it over and measuring storage spaces and the dealer - Rocky Mountain RV in Albuquerque - has been wonderful. So, we know it is used and will have "issues", but it seems to have been well cared for. My in-laws are long time RV owners and full-timers so we have some knowledge base to tap there but we are going to have a lot to learn and hope to get a lot of education from the great folks we meet here in the forums and out on the road.

Welcome robby4570 to irv2.
Nice looking coach you have there. Here's a link to the Newmar forum.
As for the tape you will not be missing much its mostly just general info and you can get many of your answers on the forum.
Generally Newmar is very helpful but everyone can have a bad day.
Hope you join us and do post often.

I had a 2000 Dutch Star and the video tape was totally worthless. As I remember the first part was like an advertisement and the last part was very basic generic information.
I know you will enjoy your Dutch Star. Safe travels.

Thanks for the info, I rather expected that to be the reply. Usually those manufacturer provided videos are mostly infomercials about the product that you just bought, be it a Shopsmith, a compost tumbler, or a motorhome, etc. That actually makes Newmar's $36 price on a replacement even harder to swallow. Thanks again. I think the thing that cheesed me the most when I got to talk to someone at Newmar was the completely neutral response to my statement that I was a brand spanking new owner of their product, I guess I expected a congratulations or welcome or something. That may be a bit irrational but this was a huge purchase for us and the newness and excitement is still hanging on. Oh well, "my bad" as they say. We still love our new home.
