New to RV Life

Hi everyone. I'm a single mother of 3 with 2 dogs. My families safety seems to be a huge priority at the moment, as we are planning on going out in our old (but new to us) motorhome tomorrow. First of all it's a 1982 Skyline Jamme II with a Chevy chassis and it's about 25 ft. I don't know how everything works, but I know that the fridge works on LP (cause the maintenance crew told me) but I don't know how to work it. I don't know how to light the water heater or fill the water tank and I'm getting a little nervous cause we are going to a campsite with electric only. Next I have an Honda EV4000 generator with only 250 approximate hours on it, and for some reason, it won't start. It turns over and turns over but it never starts! The maintenance crew supposedly took care of this and I heard it running when I went in to check on their work a few times, but now it won't start. Any ideas? Any help at this point would be nice as I can't find any manuals on this motorhome at all, and I seriously don't know what spout is used for onsite water or to fill the tank!! I'm so lost.

Wow, a bit more than a sentence or two but a year ago I was new to. RV s as well. I found doing lots of reading but also You Tube has lots of Videos that helped me, give it a try.

By the way , had the same issue when I got mine home with the generator ; there was an on-off button directly on the generator that I kept missing.

Best of luck!

Hi lvlyfun, welcome to the forum. If you have a site with electricity you shouldn't need your generator. Relax, everything will fall into place - hopefully.

Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined us! Congrats on the new rig! I don't know anything about that particular brand, but hopefully someone will jump in with some advice for you. I would strongly suggest that you find others in the area who can help you get started in RV'ing. It can be pretty frustrating to start out not knowing even the basics. Good luck & God bless!

Your first few times out will be challenging and then it will all fall into place. Hopefully when you get to the campground you will have a friendly manager/neighbor that will be happy to help you hookup and show you how to operate everything.

Good Luck,
Jon

Welcome to the forum and the RV life. The greatest thing about RVers is they are the nicest folks. If you have any questions or problems while your RVing go ahead and ask someone near you. Folks are likely to be pleased to help you out and give you lots of info. Plus any questions you have post them here and you'll get lots of great info....for free! Best thing you did your family was buy a trailer.

You indicated a maintenance crew was checking things out for you. Get one of them
to show you how things work and what has to be done.
For the first couple of times out you will feel like you are over loaded in the info lacking
department but that will pass. And as other have said if you do not know ask as we
all at one time of another been there.

Howdy and welcome aboard. As mentioned if your going to a site that has electricity, you can address the generator problem at another time. It sounds like it will be trial and error for a bit but hey, we're all learning here and if you get stumped just post a question. Someone will help I'm sure. If you purchased your rv from a dealer, return there and have them go over it with you. Hope you enjoy your travels, be safe and Happy Motoring!!
