New Vintage

Hi -

We are just becoming RVers. We like to camp with the kids, and we were looking at LeSharo's which were a nice layout but the idea of a 20+ year old French truck was a bit scary. Ran across a local Allegro with an almost identical layout, but on back of a Chevy Astro, so I have a better feel for it on the automotive maintenance front.

However, the LeSharo seems to have a fairly active owner community with lots of resources on the net - the Allegro, not so much. Hoping to be able to find some.

Hello, welcome to IRV2! I don't know anything about either one, but I did want to welcome you to this site. Hopefully, someone will come along with an answer for you. Good luck on your purchase.

The Winnebago Itasca Travelers WIT, has a group called the "No Tows" which is made up of Le Sharo and other models who can't/don't tow. If my memory serves me the Le Sharo was notorious for tranny problems.

I have an 87 Allegro 33' MH on a P30 chassis and I'm very happy with it. As long as you understand that your getting a 20+ year old vehicle and that things break and quit working you will be OK. As for the appliances I made sure everything worked (had a new refrig) and inspected the chassis (my DW is the mechanic) checked the tires and body of MH. I was able to get a great deal because of some minor leaks (took under a $100 to fix and 2 weeks to do) and saved thousands on purchase. If you are handy you will be OK. I also have a great mechanic who works on the coach for things we can't do. We use ours for short trips and mainly camping at state parks. We will keep it through this year and look for a newer rig. Would do it again in a heart beat.

Good Luck
Arnold

Thanks I recently joined over at TRVN also, but, unless the search features (both there and here) are not working correctly, I wouldn't really describe it as "well supported." Maybe I can change that.

Just a note a helpful link in the Vintage forum to the old manuals led me to someone who has some and an informal group of owners. They may join in here now.
