Talking Newbie

Well, we finally made retirement & now we have to plan our first rv trip! I want to tow our rv to Southern CA, but hubby doesn't want to tow it from MS to CA for our first trip, so we plan to make a scouting trip & maybe learn more about where to stop & what to see. We have hairy 4-legged babies that will be traveling with us. Any suggestions for traveling with dogs & things to see along or not too far off of I-10 would be appreciated.

Hi Patts, welcome to the forum. From where in Mississippi are you starting. Why don't you start off with a little shake down trip to Lakeside RV Park in Livingston, LA (Welcome to the Lakeside RV Park Website) at exit 22 on I-12. There's a nice Camping World a few miles to east at Hammond and you would be parked just out of Baton Rouge where there are lots of nice places to visit, like the Mall of Louisiana. A side trip in the truck to New Orleans wouldn't be out of the question and/or visit a few of the great antebellem homes on the westside of New Orleans (like: Oak Alley Plantation - Visiting, Bed & Breakfast, Groups & Private Events, and About Us ). Some good stopping points between Baton Rouge and San Antonio include Cajun Palms RV Resort , Cypress Bend RV Park - Iowa, Louisiana , Gulf Coast RV Resort | Beaumont Texas Rv Campground , and Houston West Home Page. You might also want to stop over at RV Park / Traders Village Houston / A Texas-Size Marketplace where they have a big flea market on the weekends. It's a little off the I-10 on the westside of Houston, but a straight shot up to it. At any rate, have a great time with your RV.

Hello and Welcome. I agree take some trips closer to home and get used to the rig before going so far. It shouldn't take long to get comfortable enough to take the longer trips. Safe travels.

Welcome and enjoy your trip, lots to see on I-10 coming to Ca. where I still live due to my DW not wanting to move. If I had my way we would be in Oklahoma, Arkansas or Missouri.....and head south to Texas for the winters but thats not going to happen.....Enjoy and safe traveling and may the wind be at your back and the days stay clear.

I have driven across country a few times and lived in CA for a while, but my hubby has never been any farther West than Eastern TX. He has operated our small ranch for 18 yrs as well as holding down a full time job, and he loves the cattle, cowboy history and gold mining stories, so I'm hoping he gets to see lots of that on our way to CA.
