Rick:

I have an amusing story from my days as a simulator engineer at Boeing. We got one of the very first computer-generated out-the-window visual systems. The first database was for Boeing Field and the immediated Seattle area.

I heard the GE techs talking over a coffee break and they were all excited about going to Japan. When I asked why, they said "well, to get all the topographical data for building the database for Yakima". I hated to burst their balloon. They were pronouncing it "yuh-kee-ma". I said, sorry guys it's pronounced "yack-i-mah" and it's just over the mountains in Eastern Washington".

Good luck getting the rig ready. I hope you'll be able to do a short trip before winter shuts us all down.

Welcome. I'm from not far away near White Salmon, and usually pass thru Yakima several times a year. You will find some great info and insights here. Dick

Rick:

If you plan to make it out to the top LH corner, give us a PM. We'd be happy to host a visit. The San Juan Islands are a really neat place to see, if you haven't done it already. Anacortes is the jump-off point for the island ferries. The terminal is about a half mile from our house.
