Newbie and shopping.
Good Day!
My DH and I are on the hunt for our "retirement" full time DP. We are picky about length and amenities, however, due to budget for $$ to travel, we will purchase used. We really know we can upgrade but don't want to overspend at the start of retirement. We have a bi coastal and the adjacent countries with family so we do want to get around and also hit the NP system extensively. Once we get the parks down, length will be much less of a concern down the road a few years.
I joined this forum is twofold first: to research different specific RV's and their issues as we are the mechanically handicapped couple. Yes we can handle basics with help from you tube, but we are not much more than that. Secondly, to learn about home residences and mailing services etc., as a Californian, we will be getting rid of our domicile.
For years we were planning to toyhauler, but the reality is that they still do not transport the kind of vehicle we want to toodle around in, so DP and jeep toad is our decision.
We are officially on the hunt, but because we don't want over 39 feet there are limited higher quality options. We want to focus on the most reliable as do all of us eh? So Newmar and Monaco are the main ones as we are looking for 2004-2010.
Looking forward to learning alot!

Right? Seems like both extremes are easy to find, super $$ or should be at the junk recycler, the inbetweeners are taking alot of time and driving.
Thanks!

Sites like RVTrader are a good place to start your search. Keep in mind everything is negotiable.

Welcome folks, there are many clean low mileage DP's out there. Just take your time looking.

Welcome
Welcome to our wonderful community.
Here are some hints to hopefully help you along your decision path.
You’ve decided on year (excellent choices). Probably a budget too. If your budget is $75K, look for a $60K coach, and keep $15K in reserve for repairs, tires or other maintenance issues that will become important to discover before you hit the road. Repairs done while you are home in your house are a lot more bearable and less stressful than those done somewhere down the road and while paying for a room.
Visit RV lots or private sales with an eye to looking at what you like about different floor plans.
Then check out sites where you’ll find classified ads. Start here in iRV2’s classifieds. Check out RV Trader, RVT, heck, just gooooogle RVs for sale. On some sites they have owner reviews. We read plenty of reviews for a subjective ownership experience, paying special attention to the likes, dislikes, and common problems. It sure helps narrow down the list.
When you have your short list and are ready to purchase, go hunting. I prefer to buy anything from a private seller rather than a dealer. I don’t like to pay commissions, play games with supposed other interested parties, and a private seller will usually provide you with a maintenance history, whereas I’ve never seen a maintenance history from a used car lot. You’re usually lucky to get the owner’s manual.
When you think you’ve found the ONE, time for due diligence. Ensure the title is clean (eg) not salvage or rebuilt. Run a VIN check. Check for liens.
Then hire an independent inspector. As well, do your own RV inspection by using one of the many checklists found by goooooogle.
Lastly, it’s a buyers market.
Good luck and happy hunting.
Another poster mentioned to add Tiffin to your list, and I’d agree. Add Beaver Coaches and Triple E Signature. Both excellent coaches with high marks for build and craftsmanship.
Cheers 🍷
DJ

I would be very cautious about model years 2009 and 2010 in your list. Many builders were under extreme financial pressure during the start of the Great Recession and cut corners and/or cut back on amenities. If you spend the time you should in your search, you will develop and eye for build quality.
