Newbie from California

Hi all. My DH just retired, our house is on the market (and empty) and in 4 days we are leaving to become full-timers. Not only are we going to be newbie full-timers, we are newbies to RVing. We bought a 2007 40 ft. Winnebago Tour (diesel) and have spent the last few months learning everything we can about it. We are very excited and are hoping that we have thought of all contingencies (but I'm sure we haven't). We are starting out by heading up the coast of California and have mapped ourselves out until the middle of September hitting Oregon, Washington, Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota and Colorado. Are we being too ambitious? Probably. Anyway, we will adjust as we go along.

Thanks for being here.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your new rig and upcoming changes! You'll love it. We did much the same thing. Purchased a new Itasca Ellipse 40FD (first RV of any kind) shortly after I retired... traveled the country about half time for a year or so... sold our Northern California home in 09 and went full time!

I don't know if your schedule is too ambitious or not... you'll figure it out as you go. Just remember you've got all the time in the world to see what you want to see so you don't have to rush through anywhere you don't want to. One thing we learned was to begin staying at least a week at one location when we could to get weekly CG rates.

I see you've also joined Escapees. Great move! Surprised we haven't run into you before since we both live on Rainbow Dr (lol)

Best of luck. We're glad you're here.

Rick

Congrats on your new adventure. I hope when you are in Washington that you spend time on the coast, the Olympic Pen., and the Cascades. Also you would love the wine country in Eastern WA and done the the Columbia Gorge. Some very beautiful country.

Happy Trails

New also. Would like to start a "western" forum. I am retireing and starting a long road trip. First will be the whole CA coastline to Washington.
I think there are probably a lot of "west" folks. Can we start one?

Thanks for the tips. We'll be in Washington 3-4 weeks so I'll definitely be checking things out (especially wine country).
