newbie here!!

Hello, All! I am a new Forum member and have already found valuable and timely information relative to our new motor home. Previously, my wife and I full-timed in a Travel Supreme 5th wheel, but decided to purchase a motor home after weighing the pros and cons associated with each type of RV (motor home vs. towed trailers or fifth wheels. We recently puchased a Damon Challenger, model 3710, and although we have it only a short while, have put almost 5 thousand miles on it with trips to FL and AL. We will be leaving for Maine in May for the months of May, June and July. We are really enjoying the convenience and livability of the motor home and we are giving serious consideration to returning to full-timing once again. We really enjoyed this particular time in our lives, and miss the people and the camaraderie, as well as all the places to visit in this wonderful country of ours.

I do have a couple of questions regarding the operation of some of the "systems" of the Challenger, however. The dealer from whom we purchased the motor home, Camping World in Greenwood, IN, did a less than stellar job of explaining some of the motor home's operations, specifically the slideout operations. Could someone tell me where the motor for the individual slideouts is located. I am particulary interested in the operation of the large curb side slide which encompasses the dining area and bedroom. I get a slight "crunching" sound when the slide is initially deployed to the out position. The sound doesn't continue and it seems to be getting less pronounce than when I first put the slide out, never-the-less it is rather disconcerting, especially if it is not a "normal" noise. The other two slides (smaller) do not exhibit any sound whatsoever, and work flawlessly. Any information someone could share would be appreciated. Sorry for such a long post, but I do appreciate all the information forthcoming and plan to stay "tuned " to the Forum for future information.

Hey Bronk,

The slide motor to your large slide should be visible under slide area while slide is open. Check movement of slide, to see any abnormalities, by having partner actuate slide while you are under slide to observe any binding. Use of a walkie talkie or phone between your help and you adds to safety.
All slide weather sealing and slide gearing should be checked annually and lubed with dry silicone spray lube.

Hi Bronk and welcome to the wonderful rv world. You need to be level before extending the slides. Just a thought as to the noise if you're not level.

Thank you to THE GENERAL and CLIFFTALL for the timely responses. I am level when extending the slide/s, and since this has been making this noise upon opening since new, I am wondering if it may simply be "adjusting", and will lessen with use. I am not too far from the DAMON factory in IN, so may stop by next month on the way to Maine. I also posted my initial posting on the DAMON owners' forum, where I am sure that someone who has a Challenger will chime in with some information. Thanks again, and it is good to be back in the RV lifestyle.

Bronk
