my husband, son, and I have been looking for a easy-to-use for first timer, easy to pull pop-up or hi-lo. Anyone got any ideas for somebody looking to camp in mostly California?

Welcome to the forum. You will just have to pick something that will suit your needs andhing that budget. Look at some at a few dealer's and you will find something that fits your needs. Good luck..

Check on Craig list around the entire state.

Make sure on the unit you plan to buy that the raising method...cables, pulleys, etc do not bind. Look for fraying on those cables. The cranking handle should be fairly easy to turn and never bind.

Check for mold and mildew as these units sometimes get put away wet.

The tires are critical because they are small and carry a lot of weight. If it's an older unit I think I would replace the tires.

Hi foghornheddy, welcome to the forum. Good luck on your search. I would suggest the HiLo over the pop out. It is a more secure trailer.

Hi and welcome. You didn't say how old the boy is, but I agree with historyljc on the hi-low.
