Newbie to the RV lifestyle

Hello everyone! My husband and I are considering hitting the road as full time Rvers. We have never owned an RV and are total novices, but we are avid outdoor enthusiasts and have hiked/backpacked and camped all over the Pac NW including the PCT. We just started shopping for a class A, since we want to get something with a bit more space as we will be living in it full time. Our budget is around $20K (cash) We are considering buying a 2000 Cruise Air Georgie Boy. It has 66K mikes, listed for $19,995 (can get it for $19,500), and is in great condition inside and out. We took it for a spin yesterday, and it runs great. What can anyone tell us about the Cruise Air GB series? Are they reliable? We plan on having an RV inspection company come out to inspect the housing before we actually do a deal, as well as a mechanic to inspect the engine and all the mechanics. It will cost us $140 for the housing inspection...not sure the cost for the mechanical inspection yet, but we figured it's a small price to pay, considering. Any info you can give me about this purchase would be greatly appreciated! Btw...how can I post come pics on here? thanks!
Lynn

Hi Lynn. Welcome to the forum and congrats on your upcoming changes.

Getting the inspections is a great idea. I'm not familiar with that coach but maybe some of our members who are will chime in soon. Generally speaking though, be sure to have a bit of cash available for getting it set up to your liking. Do you plan to tow a car?

Best of luck

Hi Rick,

Yes, we will be towing a 2002 Toyota Corolla. Also, what do you think of the Good Sam extended warranty? (got a quote of $1700 for the yr with a $500 deductible). We were thinking about getting it since the RV is a 2000 and there is no warranty on it, other than the dealer giving us 60 days on the appliances. Here are some pics of the one we're considering. Thanks for the support!

Hi Lynn, welcome to IRV2. Nice looking coach. It's really a matter of debate on the extended warranty. We try and put away some money for repairs instead of paying the premiums. It's whatever you are comfortable with. Hope the inspections come out good and you can get out and enjoy the RV lifestyle with the rest of us. I am sure you will have more questions when you start out, just ask and the folks here will be ready to help. Safe travels.

Thought you may be interested in this current post if you have access to Kindle book readers - this one is free, and a quick and fun read about "How NOT to RV"!

And, good luck on the RV purchase and all the fun you'll be having in the future!

Yea, no way.
That's a $500 deductible per failure and repair... Learn to do a little self-help and save your $$$.

Considering class A RV

Looks like a nice unit. I agree on your paying for the two inspections. This small amt. of $ is well spent. Put aside a little $ each month for repairs. You can also do a search about extended warranties. Many Rv owners have shared their experiences. Look up the value of your RV. www.NADA guides. You were given good advice to save some $ for getting set up to tow your corola. Remember it is a buyers market.
