One day my wife and I just mentioned that we would like to get away for a few days. She is very busy with her personal training business and I have worked for corporate America for 36 years. We just mentioned maybe traveling the country with no set destination in an rv would be fun. We drove to Denver from Dallas and rented a 31'class c for four days and went to Estes Park. That was June 2 of this year. We hit the internet every waking moment and did our research. We wanted a Nexus. We worked with the factory but decided we should start with a slightly used one. We found one that met our needs but it was in Arizona. August 3 we drove to Arizona and picked up our slightly used Nexus Phantom 31P.

We really enjoy the National Parks and state parks but are not enthralled with tightly packed rv parks. Are there any rv parks that give you space, privacy and beautiful scenery? We would love some recommendation. It's great to have hookups but we don't get into the social events and pancake breakfasts. We have five grown kids and some grand kids and do enjoy some times with them but overall we are learning to enjoy not having to entertain constantly. Where are those great places we hear about?

Franklin, NC has a very unique concept of an RV campground...It's called Cardinal Ridge Farm RV&B. Only 7 sites, full hook ups but no cable, can't beat the views, the owners are awesome (Kathy and Kenny). It's on the side of a mountain with lots of trails, turkeys, deer, bees (great honey!). No pool, no clubhouse, but great opportunity to just relax and stay out until dark to watch for lightening bugs! This is our favorite place and leaving very soon for 9 days there. If you go, ask Kathy to put u on the books for one of her breakfasts...you won't be disappointed. BTW, they just became a fawn rescue.
The town of Franklin is fun to walk around...even have a great French restaurant in a gas station...seriously! Gotta get there early, they fill up fast!
There are lots of places around the country like this...I'm sure others will come forward.

Welcome to the irv2 gang! Congrats on your Nexus purchase and first ventures!

You're so right; there are some great places to camp where RVs aren't packed in like sardines. Like you said, some of the real surprises are State Parks. We stayed at Maumelle State Park near Little Rock. The closest RV to us was at least 50 feet away. The whole place is beautiful with mature trees and a great canopy. The only "downer" was the lack of sewer hookups. The rest was very nice.

We are at Point Lookout State Park Campground in Southern Maryland right now. At least 100ft. to the next site (Hoffman Loop). Lots of biking and fishing and quiet bay watching here. Cleanest bath/shower I have ever seen at a campground. We will come again.

$106 for three nights counting everything.

Welcome to the forum.....check out campgroundreviews.com.....Its a site which RVers review CG's.....We use it all the time and haven't hit a dud yet.....

First welcome to the Forum and congrats on your RV purchase. I would look at State Parks. Although they can be packed on weekends they usually are a lot better during the week. Also we fine that they are much more generous with space. Best of luck.
