Dave (and Joyce) here from close to the beautiful Black Hills of SD.
We travel down to Quartzsite for the winters and back home here in SD for the summers. We are both HAM radio operators and both the truck and the 5'er are fairly well equipped with HAM/Red Cross/CAP/and CB radio.
From the equip list you can see we are also members of the American Red Cross disaster response organization as well as Civil Air Patrol Officers.
We just received our new (to us) 2009 33' Copper Canyon 5'er.
We'll be pulling it with our 2006 heavy 3/4 ton Dodge (Cummins diesel). So far (on the trip home) it seemed to not even notice the rig was back there. I think I'm gonna LIKE this rig.
Now to set it up for desert boondocking.
Solar panels on the roof. Power regulator somewhere inside. heavy wiring to the main lengthwise 12 buss that travels the length of the rig between the converter at the back to the batteries way up front.
Then to add a couple of thousand watts of inverter up by the battteries and run the AC power back down the length of the rig back to the power panel in the stern. Then to rig DC power and multiple co-ax cables to the "office" slide. The radio antennas mount on a crosswise bar up a few inches above the roof.
Anyway some work to be done as long as the Red Cross leaves us here long enough time to get it done. Help us pray for the minimum of nat'l level disasters the summer.
