Welcome starr138, your post doesn't say where in Southern Iowa, but I enjoy going to Fort Madison to photograph and watch the trains, there is a cheap campground in Fort Madison Duck something or other off of highway 61 just as you get into towm, 12 bucks a night with a good showerhouse, electric and water, no sewers but a dump station, let us know if you have any other Iowa favorites in the area.

I live near Centerville and do a lot of camping at Rathbun Lake(Iowas Ocean)Its only about 22 miles from my home so take advantage of it as often as possible,There are 7 camping areas around the lake and all have Elect-Water-Showers and toilets on site,Dump stations are also available.Reg fee is 1 Rathbun Lake 6.00 per day and they honor the Golden age cards.

Hello starr 138! I'm Habanero from Mt. Pleasant. I have wanted to try the Rathburn area but haven't so far. I like to go to Oakland Mills, which is just a few miles from home. Last year we went up the Mississippi and stayed at various Corp. of Engineers Campgrounds which were great. I am waiting to go camping, as I just had surgery and am recovering. It won't be long now! Nice to meet you.
