Noobie and Holiday Travel Question
Hi,
We have two daughters and have recently purchased a 2001 Winnebago Adventurer 32' and a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee tow vehicle.
We got the rig to make our travel more home-like and will be on our 4th trip over the 4th of July. (hmm, rather poetic)
Anyways, we are running into a problem with campgrounds requiring a 3 night stay for the holiday weekend. We have a couple stops between July 1 and 4 that require an overnight only. How do folks accommodate that situation?
Thanks and glad to be on the forum.

and congrats on your new rig!
What you're seeing is pretty common and there's not much way around it other than to pay for nights you won't use if you can't find someplace willing to rent nightly during a holiday weekend.
If you're really in "travel mode"... covering a lot of distance each day between point A and point B... you might conside overnighting at a WalMart. Many people do. On the other hand, if you intend to do sight seeing at each stop it might be a bit tougher.
Best of luck. We're glad you're here.

Rick, Thank you for your input.
We do intend to cover a lot of ground on the first two days and I had pretty much come to the conclusion that Wal-Mart will be on our agenda
Now that I think about it, do folks stay on the interstate at the rest stops, or is that not allowed, or maybe a bit tacky?
Thanks.
Joe

That is not uncommon over major holidays, but you are FAR less likely to find such restrictions if you avoid "destination" RV parks (that specialize in all kinds of activities, etc) / KOAs / anything with "resort" in their name.
Walmart, Cracker Barrel, and Flying J are places we have stayed for a brief overnight between places. Highway rest areas are ok in some areas, dangerous in some areas, and not allowed at all in some states. We have never considered that option.
