Noobies looking to make the jump to full time soon
Hello. We are a couple in our early 30s. We just sold our house and we're starting the process of making the transition to full-timers. We're new, and we still have a lot of research to do.
We've been camping and backpacking for years, but we've never spent more than 5 minutes in an RV. So we decided the best thing to do would be to rent an RV for a weekend and see what it was like. And this is what ensued...
Day 1 - rental, first night in an RV
Day 2 - Black water disaster and packrafting
Day 3 - Review of our Cruise America 30 foot Class C
Day 4 - Attending church in a new area and heading home

We're still not sure which RV we want. Since we're new, we don't know exactly what we need, so we want to avoid getting into an RV that's going to lose a lot of value.
Part of us is tempted to build a school bus up, but the other part of us just wants to get an RV and hit the ground running.
We still have a TON of things to work out (jobs, health insurance, vehicle insurance, etc), but we figure we'll live in a local RV park for a while 'till we have all that worked out. That will give us time to adapt to the RV lifestyle and still keep our jobs and slowly ease into the transition.
A couple of our criteria:
- 30-35 feet long class A
- diesel pusher is ideal
- able to tow 5000 lbs
- if it had storage where we could fit our mountain bikes that would be ideal, but we - can work around that
- ground clearance is always a good thing
- under $50k

DP is nice but you will get a lot better MH for $50K with a gasser. Either one will tow 5,000 lbs. You will be looking for something else in a few years either way as you learn what is really important to you. Most folks will tell you what is important to them and assume you will want the same thing.

Welcome, and I have seen you on the skoolie site as well.
I had class a, b, and c motor homes , tow behinds and fifth wheels,
There all great in there own ways. When I got back to rving we look and looked for a class A , almost got one nice dp but in the long run it wasn't right for us, so then I built a school bus for us to use for a while. Long story short 25000kms later and almost 5 years later still using it, haven't found the right class A . Been down some real bad dirt roads to my fishing hole, to halfway cross Canada , have lived in it, and even entered a few swap meets and sold stuff to pay for our fuel. Plus I can repair anything on it was well. This is a great site to be on these people can help out even us skoolie folks

Welcome to the forum. You will learn many things about RV's, and the RV lifestyle here. Lessons will come in the favors of humor, opinion, and fact. Sometimes individually, other times as a Neapolitan.
My wife and I enjoyed your videos. The documentary of your experiences are so similar to most if not all newbies. Best of luck in finding the perfect rig for the three of you (can forget fender).
