Northwood or Jayco

We are down sizing from a house to full time RVing, next year. We really like both Northwood, Artic Fox and the Jayco, Eagle 5th wheel. We will be looking for a used one, probably. Up to 3 yrs old or so. Looking at a 30' 5th wheel. Any suggesting a, pros and cons on the manufactures?

Without any question whatsoever NORTHWOOD MFG...ARCTIC FOX! Jayco may put out an ok product, but in NO WAY does it even come close to NORTHWOOD QUALITY!

I'll be dumping my Forest River Cedar Creek Silverback for Arctic Fox within 2 years

We have been shopping and looking at many options. I think Northwood is a better built product. We'd buy one if they had a bunk room. Our 2nd choice seems to be a Jayco. Nothing wrong with Jayco that we can tell but the Northwood products just seem to be built on a more solid foundation with better construction/assembly quality.

I appreciate all of the responses and the encouragement that we picked two of the good ones. Not saying that others are not good, but I feel realy good with the Northwood's. Thanks for you input.

Be careful with Northwood.....based on my expperience, their quality has slipped and they are no different than the rest. They all have issues due to production pressures.

I will say this however, their frame build quality and factory customer service are second to none.

Yeah... hang on a second... First, there are a lot of happy silverback owners... second, there are even more happy cedar creek hathaway owners....

Third, it's not Arctic Fox anymore, now Silver Fox.. and I want to love them so much.. it's number 3 on my short list... sort of no frills, but looks solid, however, there aren't many of them of in Texas, new or used.... and I wonder if it's because they aren't meant to be a southern unit.. or if because they are SOO popular they get bought up...

Still researching myself, and the northwood hit's the rv nerd nerve in a good way.. but the Cedar creek hathaway does too in a big way... once you can get over some of the trim..... just like you have to get over the northwood busyness of the carpet and counters... talk about an eye strain..

Im about to seek some advice on how the northwood holds up to southern temps.. it's hades here...

Sorry Plasma..I'm speaking from over 14 months of research on Northwoods and I stand on my previous post. A few manufacturers may approach NORTHWOOD but Jayco and Forest River AIN'T two of them! NORTHWOOD is popular in northwest and Canada because it's manufactured in Oregon and it's a TRUE 4 Season unit.

Buy and recommend what you want...so will I. If you have truly done your research also I'm confident you'd have the same conclusion.

Oh...I'm leaning toward the ARCTIC FOX 29-5k.

Also look at Outdoors RV,( Nothwood's sister company). Their Glacier Peak 5ers tend to come in the 28' to 35' length. Not sure how many years they have been making the Glacier Peaks...The company itself is under 10 years old. Not many turn up on the used market. Just look how they are made both the Arctic Fox and ORV compared to Jayco product. Yes, AF and ORV's will cost more, but are built like tanks....We have our eye's on a ORV product (Timber Ridge).

If you can find a dealer who carrier both, walk back and between them looking at things like: Cabinet drawer strength, wheel well construction, suspension, water tank size, thermal pane windows standard (ORV), baggage doors 1" vs. 1/2" 3/4"....over-all fit & finish.

And it appears the closest dealer to me is 459 miles away... I'd happily drive that far to pick up an rv,, but that's a long way to look..

No boggy....my wife laughs at me because I'll research a new toilet plunger for 6 months...I admit to having a weird research gene floating around somewher

On my 2013 silverback...delaminating walls...fit and finish of trim...several marker lights had issue and not bad bulbs or blown fuses...side decals fading badly...slides don't close properly...etc

I might respectfully suggest that you look at NORTHWOOD before making your final decision. I'm in Michigan and will make the trip to Oregon when we're ready. NORTHWOOD is a legitimate 4 season rig and yes will be easier to keep the heat in...but remember...it will be more efficient at cooling also. Look closely friend...at least right now it's at the top of our list. I do agree that the style is lacking somewhat but for me that is secondary to function and more solid construction. My wife and I will be full timing in about threeears or so.
