We took our "new to us" 2004 Winnebago Adventurer (30ft) out for (our second outing) for an entire week and have found a few problems and have several questions:
1) Auxillary battery on/off - when do I turn it on and when do I turn it off? On when I am at the site only or when in transit also? I did not turn it off the week between Labor Day and this past week and the generator is not starting - I think this may be one of the problems.
2)Generator - what should be on when I start it?
3) The electric step is stuck in the open position - my hubby drove home very carefully - we will get it in to the a dealer (we live in VA but my father-in-law purchased it in SC). Any ideas on how to get it in?
4) Since it was a spur of the moment trip(and only 30min from home) I packed in a cooler until we got to the campground. I have read a lot about travelling with the 'fridge on and turning it off at the gas station. Do I just turn off the 'fridge or do we turn off the LP at the tank, too? My father-in-law had the LP tank on when we bought it, last month, and we have not turned it off - should we?
5) Toilet chemicals - to use or not? Formaldahye formula or not? Vinegar or dawn?

Can you tell that I'm very confused..but absolutely love this new lifestyle.

Christina, You will want your batteries turned on whenever you are using or getting ready to use the coach. Turn them off when you are storing the coach for a week or more. You should start and stop the generator without any large loads on it, (make sure the air cond. is off) THe step has two fuses and the ignition fuse may have been blow to bring the step back in when Gerald started up the engine. Look on the fire wall for the chassis 12 volt fuses and check them before taking to a dealer for this.
When you pull up to refuel turn off the ref., water heater, furnace and any other pilot lights on board. Use non formaldahyde toilet checmicals. I prefer the enzyme type and be sure to only dump the black tank when 2/3 or more full. Try to flush out the black tank too with a toilet wand to help get every thing out, then dump the gray tank to rinse out the hose.

I was using a product called Bio Clean that I had to buy through a plumber but have also used Rid X. We fulltime and so it is in constant use. If you follow directions and simple rules as to when to dump the tanks use easily dissolved tissure you should be fine.

My electric step will not retract if I have my coach batteries turned off. If the battery switch is on connect, when I crank the engine, the step retracts. I noticed this past weekend, that it did not. I stopped and found that I had the batteries in the disconnect. Turned them on and presto, steps went in.
Check this also on yours. Might be this simple.
