Replacing carpet with laminate?

We have a 2009 Itasca Sunova and have conflicting information about replacing the carpet with laminate flooring...some say it should be glued down and others say it should be floated. Anyone have experience with either of the applications. We are handy do-it-yourselfers and want to do it right.

We used the Dupont Brand from the Homedepot. Here is a link to the slate selections http://www.homedepot.com/Flooring-Laminate-Flooring-Laminate-Tile-Stone-Planks/h_d1/N-5yc1vZbejq/h_d2/Navigation?catalogId=10053&Nu=P_PARENT_ID&langId=-1&storeId=10051&searchNav=true#/?c=1&393=393

There are more but you should be able to find them now. This brand floats.
The whole project cost us about $750 including the edge trim to the carpet and the molding.
You do need to buy this tool kit. Accutite Wedge Laminate Flooring Installation Kit-TL129341 at The Home Depot Without the wedge in this kit it's impossible.

We liked this product because of the locking method and the fact that it has the backing pre installed, so there's nothing needed between the floor and the product.

It took us about five days to complete the job from just behind the cockpit chairs to the bedroom door.

Just be sure there are no staples left in the floor and that the slide has no protruding screws on the bottom surface.

OH Yea we really like it. The Throw Rugs now stay where we put them, and cleaning up after the Dogs is easy, with the central vac I installed. But that's another story.

Welcome to the forum,

Different laminates have different installation methods. I used TrafficMaster Allure Ultra which is a floating system. So read the label lol. My installation

My website describes the conversion of my Dodge B-250 van into a small RV. I deal with a lot of woodworking, but hope to be quite specific on solar as well.

Hi Barbara, welcome to IRV2. I am sure the place where you buy your laminate will have installation advice for you. Good luck on your flooring project.
