Salty moving on land

After years of boating, we're looking to move to a "land yacht"... Having a couple of possible trips coming up, we're looking for as much information as possible before jumping in....

We're thinking to rent first (Class A) before buying but am not sure where to rent from to ensure that our first experience will be a good one. We're in Va Beach and will prob be looking for a month long rental to get started and then go from there. I'm very comfortable with the systems and equipment of a Class A and other than driving clearances, I'm comfortable with navigating a large "craft".

Can someone recommend good rental locations in Va/NC that may meet these criteria?

Many thanks and I'm very much open to and hoping for guidance.

Thanks

Jerry

Check with local RV dealers, usually smaller dealers have rentals, or customers that rent their units.

We did the same. Went from 42' boat on the ocean, to 40' land yacht. Call of the open road perhaps? Harbor cruises, and Catalina trips got old in few years.

The idea of renting ClassA is great! (wish I did that, and saved myself a LOT of work). Long story short,.....bought a gasser, restored it, and realized that I need a DP! Oh well,.....every school costs money.

I suggest you look up Craigslist in your area. When I was shopping for MHs, rental offers were annoying me every time I opened "RV for sale" section.

The reason I didn't rent? Well,.....since I decided to go from sleeping in hotels (on their filthy mattresses), to "sleeping in my own bed while traveling", I didn't want to sleep in someone's bed. I did purchase used rigs, but the bed was the first thing replaced (would get very expensive to do it with rentals ), along with commode, couches, etc.

One time (in the WELL known, and respected hotel in Las Vegas) a "little voice in my head" told me to pull the sheets off the bed (before I even sat on it), in a suite that was just PERFECT (with a Jacuzzi tub by the window, overlooking the Strip). Sheets were PRISTINE white, the whole suite looked immaculate. The mattress? Well,....let's just say I went downstairs, and checked out right away. That's when the idea of buying a ClassA was "born".

Welcome to this great site!

There are a few RV rental agencies in the Richmond area. If you do a Web search more should show up maybe even closer to where you are.

Best of luck and Happy Trails!!!

Hello Jerry, welcome to IRV2. I don't know too much about renting Class A,s. RV America and a couple others rent Class C,s. Maybe check with RV dealers and do a google search of RV rentals. We found the cost to rent so high, it was not feasible for us, so we just bought a new rig and took it from there.

Hi Ralph,
Welcome to the forums! Many others here have made that same move... from sealegs to landroving... I am sure they will jump in and answer some of your questions!
