thanks

First of all, welcome to iRV2.com. We're glad you've joined us!

The following information would help:

1. Is this a full time, seasonal (snowbird) or weekend/vacation 5th wheel?

2. What price point are you looking at? You're right - construction methods and materials, component quality, etc. will change as one moves up from the entry-level units, so your request to identify the top 5 brands really depends on the market segment you're shopping.

Edit: I'm linking this into the TT & 5th wheel General Discussion section where it will get more visibility.

Rusty

thanks for the reply; we are looking for a full time type of unit. the price range isnt as important as the quality, for us. we know, as in everything, high quailty equals high cost, but are not the beverly hills type people.
just bought a 2005 chevy 3500 4x4 disel to tow with. gm has great pricing until august, list $51k, buy $36k.

Welcome aboard and happy hunting. There are a fair number of high end trailers for full timing, but they are heavy and most will be more than you can tow within limits of your 1 ton Chevy.

You can find some help and guides from Ken Lenger on this site. Has a link in his signature.

One really nice unit is built by Newmar and is definitely over a 1 tons rated capacity.

Something to consider if you are looking at new is the Grand Junction line by Thor. We really liked this unit but got realy torqued by our local dealer. They are new (just introduced this year) so you probably won't find a used one.

We bought a Cedar Creek and are very happy with it.

Go to http://www.lazydays.com

Once there search in the New RV section. They have 5th wheels from 170,000.00 down. Lots of Pictures and stuff to look at. When you find what you like, go to the manufactures web site for details.

papajoe, let me also welcome you to iRV2.com, glad to have you join us here. Some brands that have a pretty good CSI (customer satisfaction index) are Newmar, Travel Supreme, KZ, NU-WA & Jayco. There are some others as well these are some I can think of right now. Good luck & enjoy the hunt.

Hi,

I usually just read the posts, but have to put in my two cents worth on this one

Look at Mobile Suites by Doubletree. You will not be disappointed. Beautiful units with real wood cabinetry. Very high insulation rating. Not cheap but moderately priced for all that you get as standard.

We purchased ours "preloved" and it is still loved. We looked at many 5ers (went to Tampa, FL Super RV show last January) and this was the best bang for the buck in my opinion

Good Luck in your search.

Hi papajoe
We toured the Heartland Mfg. in Ind. this year and it is the one we are going to buy next when this old Holiday Rambler (96) wears out. We were impressed by their build of one unit a day and the time and layout of the unit. Price is not bad, goo d luck in your search.

Hi a newbee to this from. Before you fall in love with a floor plan of Mobile Suites check out the form 5thwheelforms.com roll down to MS.

We had our heart set on a MS till we read all the problems with units 05 and up. Seems the Co. has gotten too popular so they are pushing them out as fast as they can and QC has gone down the tubes. Some of the problems are serious.

We are still looking for full-timing, Hartland looks interesting with their R14 walls, highest in the RV industery.
