Seizing opportunity: relocating from ATL, GA to AUS, TX

Hello everyone!

We are a mid thirties couple with younger children currently in the northern suburbs of ATL. We first got introduced to the RV world by our long time, high school friends 7 or 8 years ago. Our friends offered us to go co-op on their RV purchase but because of our circumstances at the time, both financially and family wise, we decided to pass.

Fast forward to October 2014, that's when it all began to gain traction. Growing unhappy with our careers and not seriously considering it, my wife started having conversations about moving out of ATL area after 20+ years of living here. Of course, knowing my wife, it was all hot air. In December 2014, we made the decision that it would be best for me to resign at my job working for one of the mega banks and begin to take our life in a different direction.

During Christmas break and to my wife's credit, she created a Family Christmas Bucket List. We traveled to CA to visit her parents and created some of the most amazing memories by doing something unique each day of our break. One such bucket list day item was to sit on our PJ's all day and watch movies as a family. We watched RV (2006) IMDb with Robin Williams as one of those movies. Given that we had been enjoying ourselves and with our newly created family tradition, the RV movie sparked the idea for our next family adventure: take an RV trip during Spring Break, complete another bucket list and explore possible relocation cities. Low and behold, we circled back our long time high school friends and ran the idea by them. Surprisingly, they agreed to let us borrow their 2000 Class C RV which they still own!

The Family Christmas Bucket List (FCBL) and our Spring Break adventure would each need their own thread but suffice it to say that a new tradition was born and in one week we embraced the RVing lifestyle like love at first sight. Today, my wife has new job working remotely from Austin, TX, we are selling our beautiful home in GA, and I am looking for a new career in the SW Austin, TX or greater Austin area.

Because of how things played out with my wife's new job, we got several logistical relocation items to consider on our own. From living arrangement until we find a new home, to moving XCountry with our two dogs and one being 65lbs, etc. Once again here came my wife blowing hot air and says: Why don't we buy an RV? "It will help us meet all our needs and we can use it to visit family." Except this time I looked at her immediately and thought it was INGENIOUS!

As of last Thursday May 21, 2015, we became the new and proud owners of a Class A 2001 Fleetwood Expedition 36T!

I hope the long intro provides you a glimpse into our past, present and future. We look forward to sharing and contributing to the forum.

Welcome to the site, welcome to Austin, and congratulation for you RV. I have been here 36 years and I have watched it grow from a 70's mentality to a high tech center metroplex. The Armadillo World Headquarters is no longer, but there will always be the "Keep Austin Weird" bunch, "Whole Foods" hippies, and live music.
