Slide problems

Hi. My wife and I have been retired and enjoying RVing for several years with relatively little trouble with our 5th wheel trailer. We have seen much of this beautiful country, but right now we are stuck at home with a bedroom slide which will not work. Has anyone out there had experience with a 2003 Colorado 33 bedroom slide? I have removed the Von Weise motor, which works fine. The problem is with the gear box, which has failed. The gear box was welded closed by the manufacturer, so failed parts cannot be accessed. Has anyone had the same problem and been able to find a solution? Or a replacement gear box? I appreciate any ideas.
